Clearly on this website one of the primary factors in health care reform is making it accessible to the 40M+ that don't have it. It's a shame that the entire focus has to be on controlling costs for those who do have health insurance. It's really too bad that most Americans don't look any farther than their own pocketbook to make decisions. I guess it would be socialism to talk about making things equal for everyone.

1. And what those concerned about their own wallets or keeping
Edited on Tue Aug-11-09 02:07 PM by dflprincess
the insurance they have now becasue they just "love" it (which probably means they haven't had to use is for anything major) is that if we were all in one big pool and there weren't all those extra non-healthcare related expenses like CEO salaries & bonuses or broker commissions we'd all be paying less.

The "save the insurance companies" options coming out of Congress now aren't going to save us anything.

2. We should be pointing out the tyranny of private health insurance companies
Americans hate tyranny after all.

3. Americans LOVE tyranny when it is in the service of the haves. It is only tyranny on behalf
of the have-nots that upsets most people.

Americans are selfish, greedy and spoiled.

4. No and no. They are just conditioned to think that way.
Americans are actually quite compassionate and can be provoked into supporting just causes.

5. "Can be provoked" if their own, personal situation becomes desperate enough.
Real, true altruism in this country is rare.

The mantra for most of us is - Concern for the "other" only comes about if "I" have something to gain, or lose.

6. It's un-American to care about other people.
Practically socialist, right? Greed and selfishness have become core American values, apparently.

I've been having a FB war most of the morning about health care, with a string of replies that basically boil down to "I've got mine and everyone else can fall over dead tomorrow." Very disheartening.

7. I had an FB war last week and I got the guy to admit that his solution
out of our economic mess was to let us slide into another depression. It was pretty rewarding.
