The smell of irony in health care debate
http://bayareahouston.blogspot.com/2009/08/smell-of-health-care-irony-in-morning.html

A tea bagger got into a scuffle at a townhall meeting on health care reform. In the melee where 6 people were arrested, he fell and hurt his knee. Here comes the irony:

Brown told the crowd that Gladney is accepting donations toward his medical expenses. Gladney told reporters he was laid off recently and has no health insurance.

Wait, this isn't irony. This is being a dumbass. Under any other health care plan in other nations, he would be covered regardless of his employment status. He would be covered if he had an existing condition and changed jobs with a new insurance policy. He would not have to worry about his health care or the health care for his family. Instead he could concentrate on finding a new job.

And yet here he is, a bum with no insurance, protesting health care reform, getting hurt, and now asking for donations to pay his health care. The only person dumber than this dumbass is the dumbass donating money to him.

1. Get the address and send him the truth about healthcare reform
and tell him to send his medical bills to the corporations who are using him as a pawn in their war against reform.

2. And, when he's insured again
Be sure he tells his doctor about his pre-existing condition so coverage can be denied.

Best health care system in the world! :eyes:

3. I'm sure he still does not see the disconnect here.
If someone is into the rwing mindset deep enough they are totally gone.

4. the truth about insurance reform
See, if he fell and banged his knee even with insurance and it was the first incident that year, who on this thread can tell me how much out of pocket he would have had to pay with a standard 800 - 1200 dollar deductible, including, potentially, and emergency clinic visit?

What about under the Obama plan?

The irony is that most people who blather about mandatory insurance are clueless about healthcare.

5. Adding to the irony, the injured protestor's name is Kenneth Gladney.

I think that Obama can make this his next "Joe the Plumber" example of reform. It'd be very funny if we started using this story to our advantage.

"...and now he's seeking donations because he can't afford care for his injury. But if you really want to help Ken Gladney's knee, send your Congressman and your Senators your support for health care reform."

the link in the post goes to OP's blog, bless him. But the news story is here
http://www.kansascity.com/news/politics/story/1373035.html?storylink=pd

with more details.

On Saturday, Gladney sat in a wheelchair, his knee bandaged, holding a flag that read: "Don’t Tread on Me." Others who gathered at the union offices held signs with a slightly different version of the message: "Don’t Tread on Kenny."

{Gladney’s attorney, David Brown} told the crowd that Gladney is accepting donations toward his medical expenses. Gladney told reporters he was laid off recently and has no health insurance.

Poor Kenny Gladney can't catch a break.

8.  if the man is standing up for his principles, regardless
of his personal situation, why should he be ridiculed?
While I think it's funny that a guy with no insurance is protesting the means by which he would have insurance, he's standing up for what he believes is the right thing.
Changing his mind with facts, not ridicule is what is needed.

12. Kenny Gladney is unemployed, insured, and making money off the incident.

Gladney’s Lawyer: He’s Unemployed, Insured and Making Money From the Alleged Attack
http://washingtonindependent.com/54511/gladneys-lawyer-hes-unemployed-insured-and-making-money-from-the-alleged-attack

Furthermore his lawyer from yesterday, David Brown, now admits to being a witness to the event and can't officially represent him. Kenny Gladney's lawyer will be Brown's brother, Andrew Beeny.

Brown also told me that Gladney is not a conservative activist. He was just selling the 18th-century patriotic resistance flags to try to make some extra money. Brown said Gladney plans to sue both the individuals he says attacked him and the SEIU, since the "attackers" were wearing union T-shirts and "unions have a 100-year history of intimidation."
