Very good movie and a question "Them"

I watched a movie called "The Strangers" with Liv Tyler and really enjoyed it. I had heard it was loosely based on an actual event, the Keddie Cabin Murders http://www.cabin28.com/

Here's the question, I think the makers of "The Strangers" deny this, but their movie is almost identical to a french film called "Them", in fact "Them" is so much better if you can do subtitles. It's also known as IIs. Have any of you guys seen these two movies and done a comparison? If you like scary, you'll love these two movies, especially "Them". The French movie also claims to be based on actual events.

It's not exactly the same but "The Strangers" is obviously inspired by it. The French is supposedly based on the murder of a Austrian couple in the Czech Republic. But it could just be an urban legend.
