5. A reply to the E-MAIL OF FEAR

I finally received the e-mail with a long list of lies that includes:

On Page 425 of this Health Care Bill, the Federal Government will require EVERYONE who is on Social Security (this will include all senior citizens and SSI people) to a MANDATORY counseling session every 5 years in which the counselor will explain to the person why and how to choose one of various ways to end his/her suffering (and his/her life). Yes, they are going to push SUICIDE to cut Medicare spending!



I haven't been a member long enough to post a new thread, but I wanted to share my reply to the friend who sent it. I just could not ignore it.
Good to know all of you are out there!

Here’s a PDF of the bill. Sorry for a long download. I don’t think people who sent this to you read it. I read page 95 (no ACORN there). Regarding page 127: I have been treated at the Mayo Clinic. I have family who work there. The doctors get a wage. My hometown clinic is a Mayo affiliate. The doctors are doing great, and the like their system. Go ahead, check it out – it’s been in the news (but maybe not on FOX)!

I read pages 425-429. My Mom had a living will. I’m glad she did. It did not allow a doctor to kill her. It did not encourage her to kill herself. It allowed her to decide HER WISHES if she were dying. She received all the care possible in June 2006, but her organs began shutting down. We could have let machines keep her breathing, with no possibility of “life”. She had signed papers expressing she did not want that. She had sat down with us long before that day and explained her fear of being on machines or being left to lie in a nursing home/hospital bed for months or years without being able to interact with people she loved. The doctor in the hospital on her final day asked each one of us we were sure the living will reflected her wishes. We knew it did. We did not want to lose her. We thank God we knew what SHE WANTED, and it made it easier for us to let her go. That was a gift from her to us. Our gift to her was respecting the thought and discussion she went through to make her decisions about this. We had never heard of a living will before she brought it up. THE GOVERNMENT had nothing to do with it – SHE DID. I expect I will be making some of these decisions for myself soon. Have NONE of you been offered information by your doctor??? If you say you’re not interested, they let it go. What’s the harm in asking every 5 years if you are interested? Do you REALLY THINK your government is trying to kill people? So they wrote it up to show you? THINK! TALK! READ! Don’t believe everything you hear.

I do NOT like things in this bill, but for God’s sake STOP sending these lies and fear. I do NOT want to see a bill passed quickly – I want it right – I want to know everything in it. I’m sick of hearing people yelling at meeting and not letting others speak – even the person they asked to answer a question! I am sickened by the signs full of hate. The personal attacks have NOTHING to do with the bill. Read the bill. Read HR676 (only 30 pages!) The bill your fear is not a final bill. There is no way anyone can rationally decide what to support or not support until everyone sits down, stops screaming and name-calling, and lets everyone ask and answer questions. Go to the town hall meeting of YOUR representative and stay away from everyone else’s.

Send this to everyone you sent the original e-mail full of lies to. Read. Think. Talk. Respect. Settle down!
Let’s do this right.

6. Anytime the word "community" is used they say "Payoff to Acorn"

What is their obsession with a bunch of low paid human services workers?
Amazingly one of the scary things they noted (if it is same e-mail) regarding ACORN was

• Page 469: Community-based Home Medical Services: more payoffs for ACORN.

First...with the aging population we need much more focus on home care. It is a big financial win when you can delay or prevent nursing home care but even more it is a huge gain for those getting the care. Being able to stay in their home means so much.

But to tie this to ACORN? They are nuts, nuttier than a baskets of acorns and peacans and almonds and walnuts.
I am waiting to hear that the board game Monopoly is just a big payoff to ACORN as proven by the game's Community Chest.

I am pretty sure their whine about doctors wages was about setting reimbursement rates for the public plan. No?
I had a harder time following it because the bill at the gov site is not divided by pages, just sections and subsections.
But the things that they were calling "government intrusions" were hilarious. Marriage counseling being covered was government intrusion into our marriages.

Then the ones like this:

• Page 341: Government has authority to disqualify Medicare Advantage Plans, HMOs, etc.

That's a good one. Hello boys and girls, they already have that. Medicare is a government program.

So many points that are so stupid going out to so many people hoping they are that stupid

Of course maybe they are right but I pretend to disagree because I am so afraid of Obama's death squad saying I am unproductive but chubby enough to make decent stew meat.
