The Real Reason Why The GOP Is SO Invested In Seeing Obama Fail
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 04:51 PM by WeDidIt
There's an elephant in the living room that nobody wants to talk about, and it's the real reason the GOP is making sure they do everything possible to see to it Obama fails.

It's a simple reality, but nobody even wants to contemplate it.

If the first African American president fails, they're pretty sure there will never be another African American president.

To the GOP, any outcome is worth that.

Even the worst depression in human history causing millions of deaths abd breaking down civilization as we know it?

You're damned straight the GOP is willing to pay that price to see Obama fail.

1. I tend to believe that if Obama succeeds, the gop has an epic fail.
Since he was confirmed, all they've ever done is obstruct and whine. They've introduced nothing of merit. Should health care reform pass, they got nothin' left to bitch about.

5. The next Obama is Socialism whine...
...will be over the Senate bill on Cap and Trade.

You can be sure that the more corporate interests are threatened the louder the howls from the Birther/Turfer/Deather "movements".

2. Fail, hell...they want him to die, and they don't shy away from saying it
But you definitely have a very valid point. There has not been another Roman Catholic president since JFK was murdered, has there?

Timmy Teabagger, Betty Birther, Dave Deather, and Sally Screamer are the front line soldiers in this.

And their America is gone. And they want it back.

4. Guess how much Americans spent on healthcare last year. Just guess.
$2.1T (that's trillion).

The GOP would love Obama to succeed, but he's going after their filthy lucre.

All about $$$.

It doesn't matter what is proposed.

8. It's more simple than that.
If Obama succeeds, Republicans lose. If he fails, they win. They wanted Clinton to fail, and Carter, etc. And frankly, I wanted Bush to fail. Not everything is about race. It's not like the GOP couldn't nominate a black person in the future. They have at least three.

10. I think they would be equally eager to see
ANY Democratic president fail. (HRC, John Kerry, Al Gore, or whoever it would happen to be.) While their current shenanigans are certainly in large part racially motivated, I don't think they would be any less vile in their efforts to try to bring about the failure of any president with a D behind his/her name. (Only their methods would change.) These are just disgusting people who don't give two shits about the future of this country.

13. I don't know
What if the GOP decides that it wants their very own black prez? The precedent for doing soming like this is Clarence "There's a pubic hair on my Coke can" Thomas?

As he's right wing and spews all the proper Frank Luntz talking points, the GOP would promote a dump truck full of dog shit if they thought they had the votes.

The clearly want Obama to fail because he's a Dem. Maybe way down in Dixie, that may be their motivation

16. While I do believe racism is THE major
factor fueling the far right wing hatred, I don't believe the reason you cite is why so many GOP (not just the nutjob right wing) are working hard to make Obama fail. Yes there are a significant percentage of racist, crazy bastards on that side.

But most GOP, IMO, don't want President Obama to succeed because they see the parallels of today and the 1930s. When FDR was successful, the republicans remained basically the minority party for nearly half a century and they fear such another long dark period in the wilderness if this administration succeeds. They spent from 1932 until, well today, preaching that economically everything FDR did was wrong. And with only a couple moderate republican presidents (Ike & Nixon/Ford) to show for nearly five decades.

Hoover and the Depression convinced the masses that unfettered capitalism and greed was a failed combination. Fifty years later, the GOP rode Reagan's popularity to usher in a three decade era of greed--as they took advantage of their victories to return to the unfettered capitalism that brought the country to its knees once before. And guess what, it happened again.

That is why they even try to spin every success into a failure. If this president enjoys any level of success--or rather, if they can't convince the masses that Obama is a failure, they will spend a long time out of power.

17. If Obama succeeds, they will have to come up with actual plans to deal with America's problems.
If they can help him fail, or help Americans to believe that President Obama is failing, they only have to run on Not Being Obama.

Racism is a weapon, and not the reason for the fight. Another other Dem in office would face similar opposition.
