1. Bingo...this is our biggest failure...

The republicans are masters of (if nothing else) framing. We are miserable failures at framing.

This is about health insurance reform. If democrats had been hammering this point home from the beginning we would have continued to be winning this debate (as we once were). But since we failed to do the obvious and insist this is about health insurance reform it's been easily framed as wanting to change the way doctors and hospitals practice medicine.

I cannot believe that we have failed so horribly at this yet AGAIN.

And yes, I know it's not over but we have a ridiculous mountain to climb if we're to get anything even remotely acceptable from this debacle.

2. About five minutes after the inauguration, when Obama publicly took single payer off the table,
all hope for actual health care reform went away.

We're now arguing about how much of a reward the insurance industry (banks) will get.

4. When Ceci Connolly, WaPo, and Mara Liasson can get on TV
and most confidently say Obama will be happy to sign a Center RIGHT
Health Insurance Bill, this should tell us all we need to know
about the Democratic Party.

6. A strong public option would be a nice consolation prize. But unlikely to emerge from the Senate.

8. Right. So why are we supporting this? Even Obama still calls it healthcare reform when it isn't.

9. Insurance companies are banks. Banks are insurance companies.
So far, Obama is the poster boy for any bank that needs a few hundred billion.

I'm surprised he's not riding the insurance company buses to disrupt town hall meetings.

He's on THEIR side, not ours.

5. If it was about health care,
the President would be out promoting physical fitness (like Johnson did in the '60s) and talking about drinking plenty of water every day, brushing one's teeth, eating a diet that includes fruits and vegetables. None of these items are controversial; I can't imagine town hall disrupters saying "Don't drink water!" "Don't exercise!" "Don't eat vegetables!"

7. It should be about Health Care, but it's about Health insurance.
Edited on Sun Aug-09-09 10:03 AM by TexasObserver
Health insurance is a parasite. It doesn't make anything better except itself. It sucks the life out of its host.

We can't fix health care without better regulating both the health care industry and the health insurance industry.
