GOP's Rating with Latinos Falls to Margin of Error

by Jonathan Singer, Sun Aug 09, 2009 at 05:19:31 AM EST

Look at what Republicans' knee-jerked opposition to Sonia Sotomayor has done to their standing among Hispanic voters across the country:

Republican Party approval rating among Latinos

4/27-30 8/3-6
Favorable 14 3
Unfavorable 73 86
No opinion 13 11

That's right. Per nonpartisan Research 2000 polling commissioned by Daily Kos, the GOP's favorable rating among Hispanics nationwide has fallen to inside the margin of error. While the size of the subgroup is no doubt small, thus making the margin of error for the subgroup large, the fact that the party's standing among Hispanics has dropped to virtually nothing is nevertheless remarkable (even if not surprising.

2. Weren't they rated even lower among African-Americans
A few years back? That certainly bodes well for the GOP in the future!

4. The poll has 54 percent approval of the Democratic Party by Latinos...
...versus 3 percent approval of the Republican Party by Latinos:

7. At this point, I don't think wise latino men would either. The gop has
pretty much told the hispanic community what they think of them by the way they voted. Must suck to be them now. I don't see this improving for the gop any time soon-they made their bed.
