Sturmabteilung - Also known as the S.A., nicknamed the Brown Shirts.

My German grand-parents fled Germany in 38, not because of their religion but because they were in the political opposition.

I got an earful growing up, about how the Brown Shirts could come back with their scare tactics.

They would swarm opposition debates, start arguments, call others liars, not let anyone speak, and then started to use violence.

Congratulations to the GOP for making my Opa and my Oma right.

Hard economic times are fertile ground for radical movements.

Of course that was mostly after Germany was defeated in World War I which made conditions even worse for Germans, but who knows how bad things have to get before these kinds of things start taking root?
