Response from UPS regarding my letter about them sponsoring Glenn Beck:
Subject
I will NOT ship using UPS as long you continue to sponsor Glenn Beck's program that is urging violence and racism.

Response (Flicka W.) 08/08/2009 03:31 AM
Dear Doug,

Thank you for your e-mail regarding our recent advertising on Fox. We value your input and take your comments very seriously.

UPS is very sensitive to the type of television programming with which we associate our messaging. While our advertising schedules are purchased months in advance, we work with our agencies to monitor programming for offensive, inappropriate or controversial content as our schedules run. We do not, however, always have complete visibility into which programs will be promoted in purchased shows.

Occasionally, our advertising ends up near polarizing content. If we find that this becomes a consistent pattern, we will re-evaluate our commitment to particular programs or networks.

Please contact us if you need any additional assistance.

I like that response. Sounds like if they're inundated with complaints, they might do something about it.

Thanks.

26. UPS Was A Corporate Sponsor Of "The Contract On America," -writtten by former UPS supervisor-
Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 10:53 AM by mikekohr
UPS Was A Corporate Sponsor Of "The Contract On America," They Have An Overseas Shell Corporation based in Bermuda named Overseas Partners Limited, (OPL) whose sole design is avoidance of United States income taxes. The IRS won the largest back taxes judgment in history against them in the late 1990's. The Bush administration dropped the case during the appeals process.

They are not good guys. I was in management there for 12 years. They are no fan of the Teamsters. They are not your friends and certainly not your ally. Decertify the Teamsters and watch how fast they skin you alive.

They are no fan of Democrats either. I was repeatedly informed by upper management that Democrats were a pale shade of the Communist Party. Their lobbying organization, UPSPAC, one of K Street's biggest, gives overwhelmingly to Republicans. When I left UPS in 1992 I turned in testimony and documents that detailed their tactics of forcing supervisors and management into donating to UPSPAC. The Federal Elections Commission filed a charge against UPS, in which, after a four year legal battle UPS agreed to pay a fine and to never engage in this behavior again (never get caught again).

I turned over to the EEOC internal company documents that resulted in a sealed judgment against UPS for age discrimination.

I turned over to attorney David Mark of Seattle, Washington, documents that proved UPS was aware of tactics that resulted in employees being forced to work through their unpaid lunch hour. The documents proved that UPS was aware of these facts and were actually tracking the number of affected employees on a national level, in spite of years of legal testimony to the contrary. The case resulted in a multi million dollar judgment aginst the corporate entity.

UPS, may be an authoritarian dinosaur in the business world, but they are extremely astute in avoiding bad press. In fact press clipping are gathered at a national and world wide level and studied with an intent as to how to influence positive press coverage. Example: one of the biggest contributors to National Public Radio is the Annie E. Casey Fund, This fund is named after the daughter of UPS's founder Jim Casey.

5. I do understand their dilemma
I've bought network radio advertising, and you often have no control over when those ads will run. To my chagrin, the ads have sometimes run during Limbaugh's program -- which makes me cringe.

27. I am surprised they even replied to that nasy childihsh rant.
I would simply have deleted it.

If the cursing and name calling wasn't bad enough the partial sentences and hard to read punctuation certainly was.

BTW I am no grammar snob and routinely misspell stuff but at least make an attempt for it to look like English.

23. Better than being named Bambi, a name some parents also inflicted on their kids.
At least Flicka is Swedish for "little girl", kind of like being named Colleen. The book was really good, as I recall -- a wonderful coming of age story about a sensitive boy. The filly is given the name by the ranch hand, a Swede.

Maybe UPS' customer service is in Asia and this was the "American" name that this employee chose.

37. Or my contacts at a major US electronics distributor.
They even use a telephone # (area code) from NY....which transfers to India...I guess to make people think that they are really working out of NY.

I laugh alot at the "Americanized" names that are chosen by foreigners.

Coco, Dicky, Jacky, Sammy, Marilyn, Blossom and my favorite....Lavender.

And I mean no disrespect with my post. It's just the way that it is.

20. that isnt good enough. you need to send another email and tell them that reply just isnt good
enough. that is the standard reply. you want more than jsut the standard reply because that statement allows them to appease you and continue on with putting an ad on beck show.

not good enough

29. You will never get more than a standard reply because...
the person scanning & sorting the inbox is not a person of authority.

However they do run reports on reported issues.
If enough people send an email and it makes the top 10 list for the month it will be acted upon by someone in authority.

This is an instance where numbers matter.
