hands off their stilettos, please...
Edited on Sat Aug-08-09 09:01 AM by demoleft
...and it was not enough, the church(es) with their passion for stifling women's freedom of choice.
now the workers' Union as well, and what a one - the Trade Union Congress in UK - asks for a ban of stilettos for women workers.

"High-heeled shoes should be banned from the workplace because they are sexist and pose a health and safety hazard, say union bosses.

...

But high-flying women said the motion was patronising. Former Apprentice winner Michelle Dewberry said: 'This is absolutely ridiculous and I think these union officials should be spending their time dealing with more important issues.

...
Miss Dewberry, who gave up her £100,000 a year job with Sir Alan Sugar and has founded the beauty website chiconomise.com, said: 'I can't imagine these officials debating a motion about how tightly men should wear their ties. Wearing heels is a personal choice.'"

not much the suggestion - but the request of ban falls between ridiculous and arrogant.

Unions in Europe should be back to get an interest in serious matters about work and equality.
these yes, all but ridiculous.

astonishing really.
looks like wearing something attractive at work it has even become an issue in the fight for the workers' right.

hands off my collegues stilettos.

ciao DUers.

1. Seems to me the union bosses are just
emulating the government bosses i.e. taking up nonsense issues for reasons unknown to intelligent human beings

4. here's something more serious for the unions to deal with...
..."UK unemployment rose by a record 281,000 to 2.38 million in the three months to May, the Office for National Statistics has said."
"TUC general secretary Brendan Barber said: "It's particularly worrying that over half a million unemployed people have been out of work for at least a year, including 133,000 young unemployed people."

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/8151017.stm

reminds me of the italian unions here. they do not have the least idea of where this crisis is going, how to manage it, what will be the scenery tomorrow. we're losing jobplaces like leaves in autumn, in europe.
and stilettos is the issue in UK.

good luck.
