"A Sin Against God"
Edited on Fri Aug-07-09 09:59 PM by Avalux
My mother's words, not mine.

She said this as we talked about a family member who had breast cancer and now cannot get health insurance coverage. Although she is cancer-free, it's a pre-existing condition.

I would never call my mother a liberal or a progressive. She does however, care about people and believes everyone has the god-given right to treatment when they are sick.

So in her words - what the insurance companies do in denying coverage is a "sin against God".

Obviously the GOP and their Christian followers don't agree with my mother.

1. But its not a sin to feather big business insurance interests with hugh profits.
In the Repuke world people die if they can't pay, are called free loaders, and many other things..its amazing they speak out for unborn life but not for those already here.

3. Just an assumption here but let me guess some things about her
She's probably had at least one child die

She remembers going hungry to make sure others eat

She remembers that the churches weren't always there for her and hers, but a lot of common folk, religious or NOT... helped eachother out.

She remembers we have fought wars to be the best we can be, which means it should be unacceptable to have camps of homeless people or shoeless children. We are better than that. What else have we worked for these last 220+ years? If you have a padded wallet and you can step gingerly over the body of your fellow citizen, because she/he was poor, uncovered by medical insurance, wrong in political opinion, mentally imbalanced because of UNNECESSARY WARS where they found themselves questioning their own country.... you are probably a republican.

the world has changed but certain values haven't

4. She certainly has not had an easy life.
And she does remember having next to nothing and how families and communities came together to help each other. There was a time when I was a child when she worried how she would feed our family.

And THEY speak of values....

5. It seems like if the law is going to treat corporations as persons, then
maybe God should too. Ir at least make individual persons at these corporations individually responsible for the pain and suffering they bring others in the name of money.

8. When did that law happen?
I was trying to figure that out the other day. But yes - if there is a GOD (and I'm not sure there is) - where's the justice??

6. It's worse than that ...
,,, it's a sin against a fellow human being.
If you believe in god, a slight against him will not cause him any lasting harm. This is not the case with a slight against a person.

9. I agree. But my mother is old school -
Catholic. And for her to say that - she's pissed at all the shenanigans.

7. I use to wonder why God did nothing to help...
Now I no longer believe that a God exists.

10. It's up to us.
Even if there is a 'God' - I doubt it interferes with humanity. How we live amongst ourselves is up to us. Can't say we're going very well.

12. Yes she does.
But people are so very selfish and can act inhuman when irrational fear takes over. That's what's happening.
