Hey, David Gergen is calling out the GOP leadership for condoning the townhall disruptions.
I agree with Mr. Gergen: the GOP leadership becomes culpable the more they remain silent.

But he's the guy saying it on CNN, so he gets all the credit.

1. I'm sensing fear in the bowels of the GOP
Seems like it just started today.

2. Yeah, a little like "Uh...hey folks..."
"Please remember that the torches ARE flammable, and keep those pitchforks pointed up, because they ARE kinda stabby..."

4. They cannot control what they have unleashed... and they're
just beginning to figure that out.

9. I sense that realization, too.
They are also getting a little taste of the backlash that's about to reign down on them if they don't put a leash on their rabid horde.

3. Gergen called out the racist behavior at the Palin rallies too.
I think he is really concerned about what he is seeing.

5. Gergen is a good guy.
Even if he is conservative. He's a good person.

6. Better than the GOP leaders who are willing to cheer on disruption of public meetings.
And now they are purposely conflating shouting down a public meeting with "freedom of speech".

They paint themselves into an even smaller corner, which is where the threat of violence becomes most concerning.

10. He's apparently the smartest guy ...
... in most rooms. Remarkably thoughtful, and one of the few conservatives who seems willing to put aside party on behalf of his country.

11. And for the GOP fringe, instead of country before party, it's
to hell with the country if my party's not running things.

The sad thing is, the root and power of that GOP fringe is in the hands of the PR/politico people who can harness the fearful, gullible, paranoid, and uninformable.

13. Yep, the rethugs created the monster...
And now they've lost control of it and it's starting to scare the shit out of them.

BTW...I really like Gergen. He's one of the very few old-school Ike republican talking heads out there. I disagree with him on a lot of issues, but at least I can respect his opinion.
