Spicy mango, hot melon, spicy lime & hot chocolate alcohol "Spykes": aimed at teens?

http://www.spykeme.com/

....A national watchdog group, the nonprofit Center for Science in the Public Interest, claims Anheuser-Busch, which makes Spykes, is marketing the drink to young people.

That did not sit well with West Bridgewater (Mass.) selectmen Chairman Matthew Albanese, who said he will ask his board to ban Spykes and refer the matter to the state attorney general. The selectmen meet tonight.

The Center for Science in the Public Interest, based in Washington, D.C., wants Anheuser-Busch to recall Spykes and is calling for state attorneys general across the nation to investigate the St. Louis brewer....

“Frankly, we're perplexed at this criticism, yet we know the Center for Science in the Public Interest is a perennial, fear-mongering anti-alcohol group whose members are in the business of spreading misinformation,” (Anheuser-Busch) said in a written statement issued in response to an Enterprise inquiry.

Whatcha think? Genuine new drink sensation or luring the underaged to imbibe?

1. little wimps need something that tastes better than puke .. when they binge drink and throw up
there needs to much more information on how DANGEROUS alcohol is

i essentially blacked out on my first drink and woke up 25 years later.. it is POISON..!!!

it is said 1 in 8 are addicted on their first drink.. before puberty it only takes a few times to become hopelessly addicted

you cant say i will quit when i get a problem because the problem is YOU CAN'T STOP.!!! it is insidious

2. AB can't seriously say that they're not targeting.....
young people with these products. They're certainly not targeting MY age-group (those that remember when dirt was new on the market). ;)
Aren't most alcohol products marketed with young people in mind though? Drink the right beer, you'll get laid. Drink the right vodka, your friends will all think you're avant garde of hipness. Seems like it's been that way forever. I can't remember AB marketing a drink with the express demographic target being old farts like me. ;)

3. I'm well over the legal drinking age and I sure would like to try it.
But, alas, it is not sold in my area yet or at least not in my zip code.

6. I have never seen these drinks marketed to underage persons.
The pic in the OP appears to be from an ABC store (or equivalent) sales counter, where minors are not permitted (at least in my state of NC).

I had the opportunity to try one of these concoctions at my neighborhood pub last week, and can honestly say that it was one of the worst supposedly-potable things I have ever placed in my mouth. But I doubt these are any more "targeted at teens" than Zima or Bartles and James were. They're sold in small bottles because they're taste-bud-murderously awful.

10. Does anyone remember Boone's Farm?
Strawberry-flavored wine if I remember correctly. I was underaged when I tried it and I'm pretty sure both BF and Spykes were/are intended for new drinkers.

Let's hope it tastes as bad as it sounds.
