Bush admin unable to find anyone to accept "War Czar" job
I've had enough of the whining about Imus driving everything off the front pages. THIS is supposedly the lead story of tomorrow's Washington Post. The Democratic Party should use this as a millstone around the President's neck for the next week:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/04/10/AR2007041001776.html

3 Generals Spurn the Position of War 'Czar'
Bush Seeks Overseer For Iraq, Afghanistan

The White House wants to appoint a high-powered czar to oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan with authority to issue directions to the Pentagon, the State Department and other agencies, but it has had trouble finding anyone able and willing to take the job, according to people close to the situation.

At least three retired four-star generals approached by the White House in recent weeks have declined to be considered for the position, the sources said, underscoring the administration's difficulty in enlisting its top recruits to join the team after five years of warfare that have taxed the United States and its military.

(Speaking for myself here - isn't there a Commander in Chief already? Or does he have a day job that's more important than this?)

1. Taking that job would be like hanging yourself out to dry...
You know Shrub and Co. are going to blame everything on this poor sap.

Heaven forbid that they take responsibility for anything.

2. HA! Hey Shrub! Nobody is going to take this mess off your hands!
Clever idea though. I guess he figured he could pawn this mess off on someone else, like he's done all his life! Make it someone elses problem.

Well, it looks like this isn't going to work for ya thins time!

Hey,maybe he could get DeLay, or Frist, or maybe Brownie (is he working yet?).

I think this is the funniest thing I've heard about Shrub in a long time! I hope he's laying awake in bed tonight trying to find a patsy!

4. Before Bush, a CIC was in charge of an operation theater (i.e - Clark was CIC)
But W wanted it all - so he issued an EO (or was it Rummy?) where he is the one and only CIC. So now the fall guy position he is pimping doesn't even have the pretty name....

5. While true, and a good reminder, theatre CiC's couldn't push around embassies
or tell the State Department what to do with any sort of realistic authority.

Before Bush, I thought that there was one official with the power and responsibility to coordinate national security matters with various agencies, such as the Department of Defense, the State Department, etc etc... I believe that in that quaint and forlorn time, his title was, the President of the United States.

So are Congress' leaders going to ask Bush why he isn't doing what's supposedly his job?

17. think through what you just suggested.
Think back to the disasters that Hitler created when HE became commander of the military, and fucked up the eastern front. Had he listened to the general staff, Germany would have won.

20. What the hell are you talking about?
Do you know what a Commander in Chief is? Queen Elisabeth is Commander in Chief of the armed forces of the United Kingdom. Does she order ships and brigades around? No. Hitler was Commander in Chief of the German armed forces long before there even was an Eastern Front. I am not suggesting what you think I am. Not anywhere close.

11. Looking for a self-sacrificial lamb
tell the person that they will really be in charge and can direct Defense and State policies regarding Iraq and Afghanistan... while really Cheney still calls the shots and this person is left being the public figure-head because the public is told that this person is the one calling the shots.

They will find some fool ready to play this role. Maybe they can get Bremer back :eyes:
