1. I'll leave the acceptance to the girls Rutger's team
They were the ones who were offended.

2. Nah, that's the easy way out :)
And Imus knows it. One apology every five years or so and his ilk think they can say anything about talented young ladies like the Rutgers team in the name of "comedy".

3. Are you a black woman?
If so, I respect your decision.

If not, you're being presumptuous to think that it's your place to accept his apology.

4. So the validity of the sentiment is dependent upon the poster's skin color?

13. No.
I don't see why I should ask the OP his/her skin color in order to consider the point being made, the perspective being shared. The skin color of the OP is irrelevent, or should be. Should his/her skin color decide whether he/she has a "right" to thihk and say what he/she has said, and whether I have a right to take it sincerely, or to scoff.

23. Amen... Unless you've ever been
put down by being called Nappy headed, Bubble lipped, black as tar or any other perjorative I've experienced, I agree that someone else who've never undergone that kind of searing pain, one can never assume that they can accept an insincere apology on my behalf and one the behalf of millions of other women like me.

7. It really is. It would be like me accepting an apology on behalf of Iraqis...
DUer: "I'm sorry Bush invaded your country."

Me: "Oh that's OK."

I have no standing here.

21. No. But the right to forgive is predicated on the injury. Is personal. Not yours.
Had this been about gays,Jews or fat people - you would have had to have been one of them.

9. I do too
We are gonna see a lot more of this hopefully,
on someone that needs to be schooled
on universal consciousness in our society.

It addressed the dehumanization I was talking about
happening with the war, Katrina,etc.
which was the nazi term of sub-human

Now for him, his penalty for him should be more painful
realizations of reality.

for god's sake.

17. I got to watch that press conference and in spite of the brush off
DUers are giving these bigots, Bernard and Imus and the GE set-up - promoters of Republicans only-demeaners of Democrats - I got the impression that DUers are nuts to let this go, but I got the feeling that there are important people throughout the country that will have more to say about this than some Duers who brush it off. I thank them.

Where do those who brush this off draw the line?

19. Well, that's a start, I guess. I think Imus should personally apologize ...
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 11:18 PM by TahitiNut
... to every person he insulted with his remarks. I think that would include every black female (who hasn't gone bald) and every white male who was shamed by association.

22. How very magnanimous of you! I am sure the victims of this attack are
surprised you usurped their PERSONAL right to make up their own mind on it. But hey, "get over it" is worth all the patronizing in the world!
