If you were a cop, from the point of your personal safety, would you rather arrest a __________
drunk or a pothead?

Which one is likely to give you more trouble?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socrates

Socratic method

See main article: Socratic method

Perhaps his most important contribution to Western thought is his dialectic (answering a question with a question) method of inquiry, known as the Socratic Method or method of elenchos, which he largely applied to the examination of key moral concepts such as the Good and Justice. It was first described by Plato in the Socratic Dialogues. To solve a problem you would ask a question and when finding the answer you would also have an answer to your problem. This led to the beginning of the Scientific Method, in which the first step says to name the problem in the form of a question. For this, Socrates is customarily regarded as the father of political philosophy and ethics or moral philosophy, and as a fountainhead of all the main themes in Western philosophy in general. (The method may have been suggested by Zeno of Elea , but Socrates refined it and applied it to ethical problems.)

1. A pothead...
A drunk most likely resist and try to kick my ass. A pothead would just probably say "Oh man!".

9. Are pot heads better then drunks
Edited on Tue Apr-10-07 11:31 PM by azurnoir
YES YES YES YES YES. Pot does not break down inhibition the way alcohol does, drunks are far more likely to be not only violent but a danger to both themselves and others, drunken driving, unprotected sexual encounters, you name it, also it is possible to kill your self drinking, to date I have never heard of anyone dieing from a pot OD.

3. I love these threads - potheads are better than drunks!
I hope they legalize pot so we don't have to hear how wonderful it is anymore. I never realized what an important issue this is for some people.

4. What would Socrates say?
I noticed that you did not answer the question.

I never realized what an important issue this is for some people.

"Some people"?

Is that anything like "you people"?

6. Socrates would probably say
"Come here young man, the best teaching is done in bed"

The difference between "some people" and "you people" is the article, "some" refers to any groups, while "you" refers to the person or group being spoken too. Did that help?

But who is the master and who the pupil?

13. I suspect that Socrates might say.....
Does a Citizen piss in a cup to get or keep a job?

Or is it a "consumer" who pisses in the cup?

If you're innocent, you have nothing to hide.

Where have we heard that phrase before?

But that's just what I think Socrates might say.

He might say something entirely different.

11. Why must I assume that I'd make only easy arrests?
I dunno, I'm not a cop, but I have to think that my personal safety would NOT be the only important consideration in doing my job.

I'd arrest the one who is causing trouble. Doubtless this would be harder than arresting the passive one.

Do you think one is more likely to be causing trouble than the other?

12. Don't know what Socrates would say but
in the days when I was a waitress I had more then one cop tell me that they loved to bust pot heads because they did not give them any sh*t and were happy to simply give the cops what they had on them and let it go at that, I am sure the cops turned it right in to evidence LOL:eyes:

being more peaceful and compliant than drunks.

23. What are you arresting them for?
The pothead might give you more trouble if he's got pot on him, since it is illegal and all.

The drunk might give you more trouble if he's driving drunk.

Maybe depends on what's at stake.
