The Federal Government never does anything right....
you know like:

Winning wars.. we're like 11-1-1 not counting the ones not over yet..

Rebuilding and restoring democracy to Western Europe and Japan after World War II.

Defending South Korea and rebuilding it after the Korean War...

Developing the atomic bomb...

Defending the free world from the communist block for 45 years...

Putting a man on the moon...

Real estate decisions like the Louisiana Purchase and the Alaska Purchase..

building the transcontinental railroad..

building the interstate highway systen...

keeping old people from living under bridges via Social Security and Medicare..

keeping disabled veterans from living under bridges via the Veteran's Administration...

running the safest air traffic control system in the world...

sending millions of people to college thanks to the GI Bill, and student grants and loans...

bringing electricity to millions of Americans through the Tennessee Valley Authority and the Rural Electrification Administration....

putting an end to the snake oil salesmen and contaminated food via the Food and Drug Administration...

protecting the environment through the EPA...

protecting national treasures for future generations through the National Park Service...

.....

yeah the Federal Government never does anything right... :sarcasm:

1. Yep! And given the fact it is necessary for you to even make a list - -
I would say the one thing government (on several levels) is failing at is education.

4. We need public education about what it means to live in a representative democracy
and the individual's responsibility for understanding government and making good voting decisions needs to start at home at about age three and continue through life.

14. I'm talking about the loan forgiveness, forget what they called it,
but the deal is, if one doesn't pay back student loans and works in public social work, after 10 years the loans are forgiven.

6. Your overall point is well taken, however
your list is a little misleading in regard to the point you are making.

The transcontinental Railroad is a pretty bad example of the federal govt. administering, planning, or running an operation. First of all, it was bid out to corporate interests who's regard for laborers and the public in genral was, well, nonexistent. It was generally a corporate boondogle.

just sayin

8. Don't forget ... when the government lays down most of the work to establish things,
(like the electricity, the phone system, the railroads, the highways)

then the Repugniconvicts say "Hey, save money ... privatize it!"

do ya think we'd have had a man on the moon yet if it was done by for-profit entities?

13. like the "private sector" does
Deregulation and turning over the country to corporate barons is what has brought us to the sad state of affairs we are in now. It never ceases to amaze me at how the blind right thinks that government bureaucrats are always corrupt and incompetent but corporate bureaucrats are consumate professionals with impeccable ethics. they have just eaten from that tainted slop trough of AM hate radio and Faux Noise for so long it just comes out of their mouths in the worst knee jerk reaction.
