3. Was kind of surprised to see this poll not posted
Maybe I missed it? Anyhow, seems like after 3 kazillion threads on the topic, it's time to take a vote.

7. I'm leaning that way myself
after what he has said to try to justify what he said that caused the uproar.

4. Firing him will only make him a martyr for the wingnuts
He should be rendered irrelevant by encouraging his advertisers to drop him and his audience to move elsewhere.

11. Bingo!
Yep. If he got canned now, he'd get on somewhere else and get even more recognition.

He just needs to be starved of any advertisers...then he'll get canned.

12. I don't see him a hero to wingnuts
One thing I find very interesting about this is both left and right wing blogs seem to be having the same controversial discussions about this. Imus does seem to be all over the map politically. I don't think we can call him a right winger or a left winger.

22. If he isn't now, he will be when he's fired
Above all, this is a bit like cheering on the Philly Phanatic as it does battle with the San Diego Chicken. Who gives a sh*t? Although it represents a more important battle, it's just a Kabuki theater version.

It's using celebrity to suck all the oxygen out of far more important discussions (have I mixed my metaphors enough yet?), including racism -- no, check that -- especially racism, the dirty secret that America has never fully addressed. A good start would be an official apology and perhaps reparations. But it's so much easier to bloviate about some useless disc jockey.

Get a grip, folks.

18. wasn't that the only reason why he was on the air to begin with?
it's bad enough he wasn't fired a long time ago due to poor ratings and complete boredom...now he should remain on MSNBC because the racists have a new crush? Seriously?

30. oh no not a martyr!
I'm sorry you think that way. I truly am. This debate here on DU is a prime example of how, even when handed a golden opportunity to actually win one, we find ways to convince ourselves that the right thing to do is to do nothing, to accomodate, to reconcile, to reach out to the vile bastards who are right now busily slaughtering Iraqis for the fourth year with out money and our kids to enrich their buddies and play king of the hill with the end of the oil. Imus was one of theirs, he is going down, we should celebrate.

Slap a jersey on his dumb ass and throw him out on the basketball court. Anyone who knows anything about basketball knows women play dirtier. He'll be begging for Gitmo at that point.

26. He deserves to be fired, but I don't know that he must be fired.
If Imus truly learns from this experience, I think he'll be better for having been confronted for his bullshit. Compare that to Rush Limbaugh or "Dr." Laura.

I think it's up to NBC and CBS to decide if Imus is sincere. I can't really tell. I wouldn't shed any tears, if Imus was fired. I think he deserves whatever his sponsors decide. However, I don't think firing Imus is necessarily a blow against racism.

At this point, Imus' apologists are more pernicious than Imus has ever been.
