Fighting Town-Hall Bullying with Information. A REAL possibility!
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 03:52 PM by skip fox
Here's a possibility:

Have representatives' staffs collect and pass around the daily
quips against health care made by the disruptors (and Hannity and
Limbaugh) and have all of ones being currently used projected on
a screen
behind the speaker. Then he or she can address several of
these at the beginning of the meeting.

E-mail and Twitter can come in handy in passing around these daily
manufactured quips.

I doubt if a disruptor would stand up and spew out a canned line
that is already projected on a screen.

2 lines I heard last night for example:

"The government can't run cash for clunkers, how can you expect
it to run health care?"

"It took Obama 6 months to choose a dog for his kids, and now he's
trying to ram Health Care Down our throats in several weeks."

These can easily be addressed by the speaker at the beginning of
the meeting.

2. IF the speaker is allowed to speak.
The aim is NOT to allow him to speak. Doesn't matter what's projected. All that matters is the disruption.

I favor marking the disrupters. Chalk? Perfume? Something that will make them noticeable. A kick me sign?

4. You think they would say things that are already projected?
And if they wouldn't, they'd be reduced to simple phrases and snarls
which would likely expose their real agenda.

3. The representative can even begin saying: "Here are a number
current objections to the President's plan. Let me respond to a few of them briefly in the interest of saving time."

6. Good idea. Pre-empt their parroting, up front, civilly and to the point.
Good idea.

7. Excellent Idea!
I was at one of these yesterday where verbal opposition just didn't work and even backfired. There was a woman there trying to shout down the repubs - she would not shut up even after everyone else had, and the Congressman was trying to get her to stop as well. Security ended up having to ask her to be quiet or leave which gave the repubs more to jeer about and further side-tracked the meeting. If Neal and McGovern had been proactive about addressing the issues instead of having to keep quieting down both sides we could have gotten more solid information out. Instead, the paper quoted the repubs as asking the "hard" questions and made it sound like the Congressmen were defensive in answering.

9. :kick:
Just like terrorists, they attack and then blend into the civilian population.

Noting this tactic should embarrass them. But then, they are pretty shameless.

10. they wont listen to reason. they are by definition unreasonable.
they are mentally damaged, and can not think.
the fact that they lump socialism, communism and fascism together shows that they are just overwhelmed, defensive, on the edge loonies.
i think having the cops ready to haul them out is the only choice.
