These nutjobs are having a CONVENTION in Arlington VA... at a hotel... yeah, $175 per person PLUS the cost of the hotel room, (discounted to about $110 per night)....

Here's a few choice quotes... right from the FR pages

"FREEPERS ACROSS AMERICA! JOIN US IN WASHINGTON,DC!"

and I love THIS one,

"Is there a convention itinerary available? "

1. Um, couldn't someone, I don't know, sort of hypothetically fill in dozens of those?
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 01:10 PM by Richardo
With funny names and fake email addresses and stuff? Because that would be terrible.

3. saves the PR - photo embarrassment of all those
useless porta-potties, the one in the lobby should be able to handle all 4 or 5 idiots who actually show up.

5. "Persons under age 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult."
why didn't they just say anyone under 18 isn't allowed. Responsible adult, that's too funny.

9. Who's accompanying the freepers over 18?
Not too many of them appear to fall in the "responsible adult" category, judging from the swill excerpted from that site.

6. $175 ?!?!?!?
Are you fucking kidding me???? :wow:

Shit, even if DU tried to charge me $175 for a "convention" ticket, I would have to pass.

16. Yeah, directionally and geographically challenged, and
then someone asks for the "itinerary" for the conference.... I posted that quote above.

These people can't find their way out of a tea bag.

17. I hope hope hope they're planning on some sort of protest over in the District.
IIRC, that Sheraton is close enough to National that it probably has a shuttle service to the airport, so the freepers could catch the Metro there. I'm just imagining them getting all messed up on the Metro... no this is the Yellow line... or is the Blue line... didn't we want the Orange line... we have to go where to catch the what? :bounce:

11. I hope they lose their deposit
Hotel space isn't cheap, and I'm sure the Sheraton doesn't reserve space for nothing.

15. Someone has to be underwriting this
I spent last year chairing a writing conference for 250 people. We have attendees from around the nation; our conference celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. We no longer have to pay a deposit to the hotel in question -- we're a known quantity to them, not to mention we're not a problem with other guests or functions in the venue that weekend.

I can't imagine there's a hotel chain on the planet that would accept a group like the Freepers without a significant deposit, signed contract, and a mandatory room block, even during a recession. In other words, someone's underwriting this.

IMHO, YMMV.
