In this amazing book, the saga of Symbolman is told utilizing only a dreamlike stream of international symbols - kin to stories transmitted by cave paintings dating from the dawn of man, hierogyphics, and pictographs of all cultures throughout time - it's like nothing you've ever read.

The author writes: "Like a universal code, a sort of “visual esperanto” sprang into being, one which I believe allows just about anyone in any industrialized nation, anywhere on the planet, to read and understand this Tale, regardless of language."

The Story:

The Government drafts Symbolman, trains him to kill, and seeks to foreclose on the family farm, a move sure to leave his recently widowed mother homeless. Her cry for help, in the form of a letter, arrives the night before he's to be shipped off to war.

I use it as a device within the symbols to sort of enclose what might be a question between characters, kind of what they do in romance languages. Spanish, in Mexico uses upended question marks at the start of sentences..

In any case I "wrote" this, cut and pasted it about 23 years ago, long before any of us ever dreamed of each other :)

some possible great news is that a new pal took a copy to Paris & his friend in publishing, and there may be interest in it being published by Gallimand, which would be huge - they are regarded as having the best "backlist" of authors in the world, keep your fingers crossed..

Plus my Hollywood award winning animation is there, okay, it was the Egyptian theatre, but that's in Hollywood :)

from that animation came the seed for Takebackthemedia.com who, along w/American Stranger, another DU'r, many folks claim invented the online political attack ad, via Flash, pre-YouTube..

I first noticed your work on TakeBackTheMedia.com years ago, and passed around Bush Knew to everyone I knew. Plastered all over AOL message boards. That predates my coming to DU in 2004. What a great site!

Your abilities, your imagination and fabulous sense of humor (didn't realize how funny you were until Twitter - not easy for one's bladder control!) are precious gifts that you bestow to other denizens of this insane planet, and I just want to let you know how very much I appreciate your being "out there"!

I love that you are going back to your roots and I wish you and your beautiful family all the best with this new venture. yeah, the "Bush Knew" & tribute to 911 folks was made a rear after it happened & predated Michael Moore's 911 movie.. He was posting a lot of my vids on his site, I wrote him, told him he should do a 911 film, concentate on Bush at Booker T school ( where Bush sat for nearly a Half an Hour, Not a few minutes).. Moore most likely came up w/911 himself, an obvious IN to go after Bush.. But when I saw his film something like 40% of it I'd covered in my Takebackthemedia.com flash work.. Even got a little mad when he made over 200 million bucks, while we spent about 200K fighting Bush, money we needed later.. Bad.. But all that corruption by Bush was in public domain so, anyone could have done it..

Still wish he'd slip me a mil.. :)

As to F9/11
I saw the full version of the Booker video, Shrub was at the school for 45 minutes and before leaving to go to Air Force 1, stood in front of the school for a few minutes chit chatting. That was about 40 minutes after he heard about the 2nd plane. No where was evident the protocol that was exercised by the SS for Cheney.

Another thing that could have been pointed out by Moore was that when Shrub took off on AF1, he walked up the stairs of the plane, alone, turned around and waved..great photo-op.(there is a video linked at standdown.net) Considering he was told that our country was under attack and in the air, why didn't AF1 have a fighter jet escort? That only happened minutes before he landed in Louisiana. While on AF1, he had another photo op, and those photos were given as perks a month or so later at a GOP fundraiser.

If Moore wanted to point out Shrub's actions...all he needed was to really emphasize what you gave him and this information that I'm mentioning is easily researched. The uproar would be deafening if people knew these "little" details. He made Shrub look more like a schmuck than someone who might be complicit as in Bush Knew. Sorry, for my ranting, I'm very passionate about this.

As for conversation piece, an Ad guy said it was more like an Interactive book, a coffee table book that someone picks up & all around work to define the flow of symbol narrative.. :)

when I created the prototype I used to take it into Seattle coffee shops, tell the person next to me, "Im writing a book with No Words.." they'd roll their eyes & say, "Suuurrre you are..". Then I'd pull it out & within minutes a small crowd would gather, complete strangers of all ilk to work on puzzling it out until I took it away from them :)

it was magic & it'll happen again.. It has a strange effect on you as you read it, & after symbols will never look the same.. A brainworm :)

messes with the mind, as art should..
