CNN.com 50 percent back Obama health plan, poll shows
This is nuts. We know it's not true. But the article says folks over 50 think plan is not good. We don't even know what the plan is! Anyway, the conservative strategy is working. We must counter it. EVERY everyday Joe and Jill will benefit from improved health coverage.

We MUST fight back.

1. Most people I know
Democrat, Republican, Independent, and "other" are against it. Not to say that I know every person in the United States but it's really not a very popular idea among anyone I've asked.

12. This is the same propaganda they tried when medicare was being discussed
and how we shouldn't rush into it.

I wonder how many people over 65 could get healthcare insurance if their wasn't Medicare?

4. Heck, many people here at DU aren't even for it.
I'm against it cause I think they're rushing through something that isn't going to do any good and is going to be too expensive for the people who need the health care the most.

6. My thoughts exactly
We should all have learned a lesson about legislation that gets rushed through. We get garbage like the "Patriot" act and multi-trillion dollar "stimulus" bills that our law makers neither have the time nor desire to actually read and see exactly what they're signing into law. Not to mention there needs to be a national debate on the issue of health care which as far as I can tell has been sadly lacking.

8. Dems Are Trying To Have Debate, Repubs Merely Shout "Nazis!!" At Them
What the fuck would you suggest we do? This is RUSHED??? Are you out of your fucking mind? How much longer should people w/out healthcare wait? Another 40 years?

14. The concept isn't rushed
but Obama's particular bill on it is being rushed. Look I'm just saying that everyone needs to take the time to read and understand what it says and what it means. What we don't want is a quick fix that doesn't work. That's what we got with medicare. A quick fix that ended up broken. As far as how long people should wait to have health care. I've not had any kind of health insurance since I was 25. I'm 35 now and granted I don't have the same health issues that a 75 year old faces but I can't ever recall being turned down for medical care when I've needed it.

I pay everything out of pocket, and no I'm not rich I make under 25k a year. When I get a bill for $1200.00 for an ear to get flushed out for 5 minutes because a bug flew in it my checking account feels like it has just hemorrhaged cash. Even still I'd rather see this nation come together with a bill for health care that works and isn't going to need a huge injection of taxes in 20 years to keep it going.

10. There has been a debate on healthcare for years. That's the same B.S. they tried with medicare
to prevent it from getting passed. This is not the "Patriot Act", this is insurance companies trying to prevent competition

It has been talked about since Truman, nothing is being rushed here

7. Too expensive? Do you have any idea how much YOU are paying for emergency room treatment
for the 50 million uninsured?

The status quo is too damned expensive

They are not rushing through anything. Nothing has been done for over 30 years

The same arguments that were thrown about medicare are being thrown at people now

If it wasn't for medicare, I would love to see how those folks over 65 get healthcare insurance

You indicate you are against it. What parts are you against?

Are you against insurers not having to insure you because of pre-existing conditions?
Are you against insurers dropping your coverage because you've reached the maximum limits?
Are you against protecting families from bankruptcy or debt because of health care costs?
Are you against preventive care, because you don't get preventive care if you don't have insurance.

and since you are saying you aren't for it, what are you for?

With all the misinformation that is out there, I am surprised. If he can get through to the seniors, it could make a big difference. This is the reason for disrupting the town hall meetings. They don't want the real information to get out. There was no question in the poll about the public option.
