A new Net Neutrality bill was just introduced in Congress.
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 01:27 AM by Lorax7844
President Obama has repeatedly called for Net Neutrality. A pro-Net Neutrality chairman is now heading the FCC. Public support has never been greater.

The time has come to make Net Neutrality the law once and for all. Congress introduced the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2009 (H.R. 3458) to give you control over the future of the Internet.

The phone and cable companies are scrambling to kill Net Neutrality so they can inspect and filter content, and overcharge you for using the Web in ways they don't like. Over the past six months alone, these companies have hired 500 lobbyists in Washington to try to stop this bill from becoming law.

It's up to you to tell your members of Congress to side with the public -- not with the corporate lobbyists -- and take a final stand for an open Internet by supporting the Internet Freedom Preservation Act of 2009 (H.R. 3458).

2. The solution is encryption.. if they can't read it it is useless to them.

21. Net neutrality is equally about ISPs...
Encryption won't matter when you are required to pay a premium fee (corporate fee) in order to have a website... this is about the right to spout your own particular bit of gibberish... not about wiretapping (this won't stop that).

It's about fighting the corporate ISPs desire to charge corporate style fees to have your website get premium access to traffic, vs. your private fees to get third rate traffic... and those same rights extending to every other website... corporate vs. individual... across the entire internets.

18. I already have issues with Verizon.
Almost daily, I'm redirected to a Verizon search page asking which DU I'm looking for.

I don't think they like us much.

Remember the whole AT&T / 4Chan debocle? Though that was "Sorted out" it was just a chance to test the waters. I for one will be supporting this bill.

11. K & R for Net Neutrality. If the corporatocracy takes control of the Net, progressives are screwed
The corporations want to do to the Internet what their paid disrupters are doing to the town hall meetings for health care reform. We cannot allow that. That would give them total censorship over all the media. They would have total control of all the news.

Promote Net Neutrality every way that you can. The Internet allows accurate information to be disseminated around the world. It is a lifeline for freedom and democracy.

The corporations will try to suppress blogs like DU by pricing them out of existence. That is unacceptable. The main stream media, with a few exceptions, already manipulates the news, and supports right wingnuts against the truth.

Net Neutrality made into law will help preserve what freedom and democracy we have left.

29. So which DLC coward is going to pull a Baucus and sell us out on this one?
By the time they neuter it, it will probably be "mandatory $99/month Comcast subscription at 4kbps that blocks everything but Freak Republic, Drudge Report, and FAUXNoize.com"
