Here's a question to ask Creationists to see how well
Edited on Wed Aug-05-09 12:32 AM by johnaries
they know their Genesis:

Did God make the animals before or after he made Adam?

The answer is..... err, both!

According to Genesis 1:20-27 God made the fish and fowl on the fifth day, and all the land beasts on the sixth day just before he created man (male and female).

BUT, according to Genesis 2:18-19 God made the animals AFTER Adam, to be a "help meet" to him.

Genesis 1:20-27 -

20And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

Genesis 2:18-19
18And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.

19And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

Why the discrepancy? Well, most scholars believe because those passages were written by 2 different people!

1. I'm sorry, but Genesis 2:18-19 says nothing about the order
It just says he had made the animals and let Adam and Steve name them.

3. But it says they were created to be a "help meet" to Adam.
and it lists the making of Adam and then lists the making of the animals to find him a "help meet" AFTER placing Adam in the Garden of Eden.

2. If both creation stories weren't included, Genesis would have never been written.
