I live in the reddest county in a blue state.
I've described it as "Freeperville" in previous posts. Part of the stress of living in such an environment is knowing that nearly three out of four of my neighbors are not only ignorant and uninformed, they are damn PROUD of it!

My wife and I were on our way home this afternoon when we heard the great news that the two female journalists were being released by North Korea to return to the US with President Clinton. I jokingly commented that I was sure the Wingnuts would find some way to be critical of the happy outcome. Sometimes I hate it when I'm right.

I just checked in our local "discussion board". The most frequently cited "authorities" on this board are "The American Thinker", "LittleGreenFootballs" and "Townhall". So, what is their "take" on the successful rescue mission to North Korea"? Well, it's obvious: Clinton "jumped in" to "save Obama's ass" when he "couldn't get the job done". "This just shows what a weak president we're stuck with".

Make mine a double.

8. Me too.
My representative is batshit crazy Scott Garrett. My county went 56% for McCain, even though the state (NJ) went 57% for Obama.

26. I'm on the border of a batshit crazy district
I'm thankfully represented by a progressive (Pallone) but I'm a mile away from Chris Smith's district, and that guy is pretty crazy too. As are many in his district (I got a lot of negative results canvassing)

10. Smart Leaders Know When To Delegate
And that's exactly what President Obama did - he chose the best person for the job.

It may also have been a cunning diplomatic move.

Just consider a possiblity - President Obama needed to send some one respected and recognized as a world leader, but maybe he didn't want to send some one connected with his administration. If he sends some one who is his offical representative, Kim Jong Il could try to push for concessions from the U.S. But, if the person who comes is not officially connected, our representative can make no promises the U.S. would be obligated to honor. If the message this person delivers is not consistent with Obama's policies, there's no loss of face for our President. Now, President Clinton goes back to President Obama and says, "North Korea wants xxxx for releasing those hostages." And at some point in the near future, President Obama decides that it's not such a bad idea. I bet Kim Jong Il knows how to play this game too. This way, those two women are free are nobody's lost face. Even if we don't do any favors for North Korea, Kim Jong Il has an opportunity to look generous

I know, Kim Jong Il generous :eyes:

People who say things like this are ignorant about leadership and diplomacy. Or maybe they are just so blinded by their hatred for Obama that they can't think straight.

15. the right wing and their followers just don't want to give anyone credit.
they don't want obama to be successful, no matter what it is. they would probably have been happy to have had some really bad thing to happen to those women. they could care less about the two women, or anyone else.... not even themselves apparently since they are all too happy to dig their own graves with spouting hte meme about healthcare... no matter what it is, whatever happens, it is wrong. even if things are starting to turn around with the economy. even if the cash for clunkers program seems to be very popular... (and for the record i am not sure i agree with the program, but at least they are trying SOMETHING!!) because doing something is a vast improvement over doing nothing, which seems to be the republicans idea of how to fix things. because it seems the republicans thought things were going just fine.... weeding out all those high paying jobs and benefits.... getting workers to thank their lucky stars to just have a job and get paid less and work more hours for it. of course, that's a win for them. and these idiots who spout rush limbaugh and faux news without even thinking about what the hell it means to them..... they are more than happy to play along.

Some minor discrepancy between what Gibbs and Clinton said.

And of course they had no good comments to make.

23. Is it a state that's always blue, or just went Obama last time?
Is it a place that always votes Democratic for President like Massachusetts or the West Coast, or a recent blue state such as North Carolina that went for Obama last November but usually goes for Republicans?

...monitor elections and use moral persuasion as a tool of diplomacy.

Republican former Presidents sit on their asses and collect money.
