Raw Video: Demolition in Turkey Goes Seriously Wrong

Associated Press
01 August 2009
A building demolition in Turkey went seriously wrong on Saturday when, instead of collapsing, it rolled over onto its roof. However, there were no reported injuries: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g7z-FQUrfhc

2. Why didn't it fall into itself? I thought "all buildings were designed that way"

4. No WAY that was "just an accident"!
Seriously, for that building to be able to do that is remarkable, the building shell was incredibly stable.

wow!

6. Wasn't so funny to me after what happened to my barn.
When I bought a piece of property about 25 years ago it had an old barn that was falling apart. It was too dangerous to try to dismantle it. It scared me just to walk inside it, it was so close to falling to pieces. So I hooked a cable to the weakest looking roof supports and figured I'd use the tractor to yank out the supports and then just watch it collapse in on itself. Instead, when I drove down the hill as fast as the tractor would go, the cable pulled tight and the whole 2-story barn rolled right over onto its roof, just like the building in the video. Luckily, about 15 minutes later it just spontaneously collapsed into a pile of rubble.

True story.

11. You can see the building on the right shake. If the demolished building had rolled one more turn it
would have hit that building.

14. They should have flown a plane into an adjacent buliding
That way, it would have collapsed neatly into it's own footprint.

15. That was some high-quality construction right there
A building that can roll completely over and remain intact...wow.

16. It's really not such a big deal.
When I was a kid, that happened with my LEGO houses all the time.
