List of Dungeon-Worthy Topics
I have noticed there is an unwritten rule about which topics get sent to the "dungeon" and which ones don't. By dungeon, I am referring to the 9/11 and Israel/Palestine groups. Heck, by even mentioning these topics in this post I am risking getting this put in the dungeon.

Don't get me wrong, many if not most post sent to the dungeon belong there, although I'm scratching my head trying to think what chemtrails has to do with 9/11...

So here is a list of topics I have come up with that will get your post booted to the dungeon:

Chemtrails/Chemblobs
9/11 - MIHOP or LIHOP
Any post dealing with the Gaza Strip, Israel or the West Bank

Any others?

1. Patently stupid shit, mostly.
There's a lot of stupid shit in GD, but chemtrails have a patent.

Just wondering...

4. How about proven conspiracies?
There are a few that were theories at one time, but evidence and admissions by participants took them out of theory and into validated fact.

Those would be subjects like MKULTRA, Operation Condor and Operation Mongoose.

8. Haven't got problem with them.
Unless, of course, they're being used in that old conspiracy theory saw...

"It's proven that some conspiracies happen, therefore my conspiracy theory about mind-hypnosis chemicals being sprayed by jetlines is sound."

whacky conspiracy theories that perhaps it could be renamed Conspiracy or something.

16. Damn straight.
Some stuff that's moved there is so close to being verified, it seems incredibly unfitting to even call them "theories" anymore. I understand that the mods want to make this site as mainstream as possible, but why not allow the members of this site determine what gets attention and what doesn't? I mean, now that we have the unrecommend function, is there really a reason that we can't let posts rise or fall on their own merits?

6. I'd prefer that some religion threads stay in GD.
I see religion, or lack thereof, as being essential to our humanity and worthy of general discussion rather than an obscure forum.

7. Ahhh chemtrails
I worked with a guy that absolutely believed that stuff. I'd prod him a bit whenever a jet flew over, you know to find out exactly what was about to come down on us.

I would think almost any conspiracy theory, like the faked moon landing belongs there too. Don't hear too much about that one around here.

11. But not all conspiracy theories are created equal
Chemtrails and Truthers belong in their own basket of crazy. However, go up a notch and you get into the SERIOUSLY crazy ones: David Icke, Protocols of the Elders of Zion, etc.

And then there are some conspiracy theories that could be proven - for example, I think most people think that there was at least one more gunman in Dallas on that fateful day back in 63.

12. I really really hope they don't move this
This thread is not a complaint - I just want to know what gets sent where.

There's no way I would take the time to post anything about 9/11 if its just going to end up there, after all.

15. i think posting something
that can be even remotely and/or potentially misconstrued that you're calling out a mod(s) regarding how threads are being handled is a possibility, and it only takes one person to alert.

obviously i see no reason for the move, but there's no IQ test required to use the alert function and everyone will interpret your post however they see fit.

just my thoughts. lotta weird folks roaming here lately.

13. Don't forget guns and gay rights
Those get sent off to their own dungeons too.

Believe me, it's better this way.

Chem trails, NAFTA/CAFTA, JFK, etc. all goes to the September 11th topic forum, mostly out of lack of another place to put them.

24. Sorry, but I disagree about gay rights -- GLBT forum is not a dungeon.
It's a protected zone where GLBT issues can be discussed with more protection offered than in GD or other places.

Likewise, there are religious forums other than Religion/Theology where an intelligent discussion can be had without the constant yammering.

33. As a participant in the "Guns" forum I mostly feel the same way
Edited on Thu Jul-30-09 03:23 PM by Recursion
Not to compare gun rights advocacy to being gay; I just mean that it's a way to talk about issues we care about with less of an indifferent-at-best-hostile-at-worst larger community butting in too much. I would imagine that I/P and the 9/11 forum have the same positive aspects to the participants there, though the times I've read and posted in I/P everybody always seemed pissed off.

I probably didn't express it well. And now that I think of it, the GLBT forum is different in an important way: as you describe it, it's specifically intended to protect the forum users; I think the other three are intended to protect the non-users from having to see guns or 9/11 or israel/palestine threads all over GD. So, point well taken.

That's not CT, and The Baltimore Chronicle is MSM. These questions remain unanswered.

28. I arrived at a similar conclusion not long ago...not just here, but other forums/blogs too
The process of writing can be beneficial in many ways for an individual, but I'm finding less and less vitality in attempting actual discussions online where the anonymity of the medium affords haters ample opportunity to engage in their preferred mode of name-calling and semantical sadism.

Ever wonder what the facial expressions of some of those types are as they type? ...exactly. I'm getting to the point where I really no longer care to associate myself w/the internet as much.

who actually introduced articles of impeachment against RICHARD BRUCE CHENEY-yet DK also has many detractors here.

Yet DU's meaningless polls of all the announced Democratic presidential candidates had Dennis Kucinich in front

October 26, 2007 DU member poll with 1,076 votes

Ralph Nader would make a fine Obama administration member. Dennis Kucinich is a real Dem.
