Beer Gate:
Edited on Tue Jul-28-09 02:39 PM by teachableseconds
(Pasted from Michael Sneed's column in the Chicago Suntimes)

The Tippling Trio: Is Obama's choice of American beer to quaff in the Oval Office creating a brew stew?

• Consider: White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs noted Obama had a Budweiser during the All-Star Game in St. Louis, but fell short of naming the specific American beer he'd drink. (There are soooo many.)

• Gates-gate: Gates tells the Boston Globe he is partial to Red Stripe and Beck's, which happen to be foreign beers . . . and are not stocked at the White House.

• Blue brew: Crowley, who has refused to apologize for his decision to arrest Gates, is a fan of Colorado-brewed Blue Moon beer, which is traditionally served with a slice of orange. (Not a slice of bitter lemon?)

Will these guys all end up drinking iced tea?"

*Am I the only person who suspects that Obama prefers chablis to Old Style? Are the conspicuous pics of him tippling the brewskis to appease the bitter clingers?

1. Gad. Seattle is loaded with beer snobs
Every now and then, especially on a hot day, I just want a good old macrobrew, served ice cold.

3. I don't drink (well, used to) and never could swallow beer (unless I had been drinking wine all
night): why do they call it 'microbrewing?'

4. A micro-brew is a beer that comes from...
a small, usually independent brewery.

A micro-brewery. Not a corporate, large-scale brewery,

6. Aha! I thought it was the process...There is this soft drink
called Malta, which I enjoy. It's got hops, pale malt, and sugar (well, HFCS:scared: ). It's like beer w/ sugar!:woohoo: And even though there's no alcohol, you get mellowed out by the hops...

5. I'm guessing Obama is drinking Budweiser because it USED TO BE based in Illinois (just like he was)
Edited on Tue Jul-28-09 02:30 PM by Sebastian Doyle
But it's now a foreign owned corporation. And their beer still sucks.

Blue Moon is brewed by Coors. An American company, but horribly right wing (and also horrible beer)

There has to be some decent micro brews within a Secret Service beer run from the White House. Hell, Dogfish Head is in Delaware. Send Biden over there on the Amtrak to pick up some of that stuff!

was headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri from the start.

Not Illinois.

13. Correct.
Budweiser, the beer for people who don't like beer. May I suggest Real Ale brews(from Blanco, TX), either Rio Blanco Pale Ale or Fireman's 4.
