Alberto Gonzales' future performance

Rumors swirl that his preparation is going badly, that he can't recall "proper" details, that he confuses dates and that his top aides are extremely frustrated. Who knows whether these stories are true, or whether we are being prepared to be shocked and awed by a brilliant, strong and convincing performance.

So, what do you think the future will hold?

1. I heard one report, on CNN I think, this AM that said Gonzo has been doing

soo poorly in his mock prep hearings, he has canceled ALL his personal appearances scheduled between now and the hearings. Seems he was being questioned by ALL FRIENDS and screwed up his time line, and contradicted his statements a number of different times!

I CAN'T believe this guy is the AG of the US!!!!!

I've had to testify in court quite a few times over the years, on a number of different topics for different companies I worked for. I was preped for no more than 20 mins. for any of those cases, and had NO PROBLEMS, because I WAS TELLING THE TRUTH!!!!!! I'm not an attorney, and certainly no super star! Isn't the USAAG supposed to be both?????

Remember that the only people who are prepping him are insiders - they have as much responsibility to prep Gonzalas as to manage how the public perceives him.

5. I'd be inclined to believe your assessmenet if I had never seen him testify

before...but I have! Most of the hearings I remember, he was testifying to a Pub controlled Congress, this time is going to be quite different, and they all KNOW that!

I have been VERY impressed with the interrogation abilities of most of our Dems...even the NEW ones!

There may be some slanting to the leaks about Gonzo and how he's doing with his prep, but I have a gut feeling there's also some underlying truth!

He's going to do ok. The WH media machine will issue several "memos" to the media that he did really well, and much of the media play along. For a while, anyways.

The hard-core right and the media echo chamber will extol his candor and integrity and castigate those committee members who challenge him and ask tough questions and cite damning details. Whether he'll resign is, imho at this point, a toss-up ... the Offal Orifice is digging in its heels, at least partly because it's a distraction from the corrupt privateering of the crony corporatists.
