Happy Birthday Medicare! Seniors to Sing Praises of Single-Payer System
oin us in this Thursday, July 30th in Menlo Park from 11:30am to 12:30pm in front of Kepler's Books on El Camino between Ravenswood and Santa Cruz avenues, for birthday cake, balloons and a party theme demonstration! Happy Birthday Medicare!

Celebrating 44 years of Medicare, a plan that provides health care for millions of seniors, activists in northern California will demonstrate on July 30th in solidarity with a demonstration in Washington, DC. Single-payer plan proponents point out that Americans overwhelmingly trust Medicare, a publicly financed program, and say that Medicare, a plan that has served the nation's most frail with low administrative costs for four decades, should be the model for a national health care plan.

In Menlo Park, the Raging Grannies will lead senior citizens and other Medicare fans in belting out old-timey tunes with new lyrics in praise of Medicare. They will have a birthday cake and balloons and offer passers-by refreshments along with information about single-payer health care from 11:30 am on El Camino Real in front of Kepler's Books.

In the East Bay, members of the California Alliance for Retired Americans and others will urge Congressman Pete Stark to vote in favor of a House bill for single-payer. They will meet at 11am in front of the Congressman's office on Civic Center Drive in Fremont. Both groups are coming out in support of Rep. John Conyers, Jr.'s (D-MI) bill to improve and expand Medicare for All (HR 676) and of Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-OH) for his amendment to enable states to adopt single-payer healthcare.
