the what-for if you don't pass health care reform, and good health care reform, in enough time for The Lion to vote for it.

1. Worse, they're going to re create 1994
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 07:21 PM by Warpy
You guys remember 1994, right? Hillary Clinton took on health care and, while her plan was far less than ideal, it did guarantee a mechanism for providing health care to all of us.

Democrats had the majority in Congress and Democrats allowed themselves to be bullied by conservatives to the point that the measure didn't get out of committee.

Democrats lost their majority in the election of 1994, outed as weak, ineffective, and incompetent. There was a massive "throw the bums out" movement that we only managed to overcome in 2006.

Unless the Democratic Party wants to repeat that history for the same reason, they seriously need to reconsider their cowardice on health care. Republicans are never going to support positive change, they've been on the wrong side of every issue for over 100 years. Democrats are going to have to do this on their own and they do have the numbers.

If they fail us again, prepare for a new Republican majority in Congress in 2010. If they fail us again, they will be ousted again.

3. hellz bellz - I forgot the link....
"This is the cause of my life. It is a key reason that I defied my illness last summer to speak at the Democratic convention in Denver—to support Barack Obama, but also to make sure, as I said, "that we will break the old gridlock and guarantee that every American…will have decent, quality health care as a fundamental right and not just a privilege." For four decades I have carried this cause—from the floor of the United States Senate to every part of this country. It has never been merely a question of policy; it goes to the heart of my belief in a just society. Now the issue has more meaning for me—and more urgency—than ever before. But it's always been deeply personal, because the importance of health care has been a recurrent lesson throughout most of my 77 years."
