Were the health care scare stories so bad in the 90's?
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 06:47 PM by TheBigotBasher
Wow, this is not even single payer, in fact if there is a public option, it is a watered down public option, but the Republican scare stories are sick.

They literally do talk of Obama wanting to introduce mass culling of the elderly and eugenics.

There are flat out lies about the health systems in Canada and the UK.

They really are despicable.

1. Give us a small glimpse of where the real power is in this country.

2. Yes, some of us have been saying so
For many years. That's why I always thought the best we would ever get is subsidized insurance which is what Kerry proposed in 2004. We probably could have had more generous subsidies and done more with prescription drugs if we had just stuck with that too.

4. Given that they are fighting this as strongly as Single Payer
and given that the same lies are coming out - the battle should have been for single payer to start with.

The Obama/Hillary care plans should have been the compromise position.

5. Congress isn't hearing from public option supporters
They're hearing from single payer people and those opposed to public option. That's why we're losing the public option.

8. Uh, no...
Plenty of us are asking for public option if they won't do single payer.

9. As long as you mention single payer
In the phone calls, you will be dismissed as left wing fringe. That's the problem.

10. You're trying to prove a point
Rather than accepting the evidence.

"Hi, I'm calling because I support a public option as well as the option to keep the coverage we're satisfied with. I do not support mandatory insurance without the public option being viable, however."

It's kinda like the bank bailout, however. Lots of us called and said "HELL NO," and they pretended that we didn't say that.

12. I'm trying to get health care passed
Yes sometimes it is not going to work to get Washington to listen. When Republicans want to go to war and when the economy has completely collapsed are two of those times.

When we have two bills with a public option and a majority who want it, is a time when we can make a difference. If we fight for it in the right way. Your verbage is terrific. Those who say "I'm calling to support single payer but will tolerate the public option if I have to", are not helping.

6. The sick scum at Larry POS Whitey Tape Johnson's blog
literally are saying this bill means killing people off when they get past 60.

They are of course misrepresenting the UK liver story.

I thought the stupid scare email yesterday that I got was bad enough - but this shit is just immoral.

How the fuck can Republicans be proud of a system that is the most expensive in the World, but is placed 37th in health outcomes?

7. They were where I lived
This is the exact same stuff I heard in the 90s. No difference at all. Same socialist Rush Limbaugh cradle to grave Hillarycare that was going to ration care and let Grandma die because it was too expensive to care for her.
