The Senate and House need term limits
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 06:33 PM by steelmania75
Senators get to run for two terms, and House members get five terms, since it's 2 years per term with them.

But, Congress won't go for that, because most of them have been there for ever.

K&R if you agree.

1. states have already tried it. you end up with untrained buffoons led by lobbyists
it is better that veterans who understand senate procedure, the "long view" of years of legislation mix in with those newer ones.

Term limits are elections. If you don't like how a guy or gal is doing...vote them out.

4. As opposed to experienced buffoons led by lobbyists?
The parliamentarian understands the Senate procedures, everyone can just ask him/her.

The current crop of experienced folks can't figure out the procedures with 60 votes anyhow, so that is a moot point.

2. One of the cornerstones of Newt Gingrich's Contract With America
If people really wanted to impose term limits, they could simply vote for someoen else.

3. I tend to agree with no term limits also
2 examples: sens. Leahy and Sanders (and yes, Vermonters have elected them for life)

5. We have them.
Two years for representatives.
Six years for senators.
The problem is people can't be arsed to vote.
