"We eat. therefore we hunt"???
What the heck does that mean?

I snore therefore I sleep.

I pee therefore I drink.

You expect logic or clarity from this woman?

Sometimes I forget where it is in the store and that is the only time I have to hunt for my food.

15. Makes perfect sense
the cost of hunting is WAY, WAY cheaper than going to the supermarket, the corner store, the general store, or, even the locally grown farmer's market.

Right. And if you believe that I have a ton of leftover compassionate conservative to sell you.

25. You may be assuming that you're not hunting on your own or nearby land. Or that the
hunter is incapable of gutting and butchering the deer, bear, rabbit, bird, squirrel, duck, goose. Even if you have to pay for someone to butcher a deer it is significantly cheaper than buying most locally-raised beef or pork.

I have friends who keep their freezer full of venison and other wild game that they hunt. They give me some occasionally. It's delicious. It's also organic and very lean for the most part.

37. I'm pretty familiar with the costs of hunting and in the modern day and age
I don't see a lot of cost savings.

License, clothing, lease, transportation, weapons, ammo, freezer, etc.

If you like to hunt, by all means, please do; it makes for less deer to hop out in front of my teenage daughters as they drive the roads of Minnesota. But I don't see the We hunt SO we eat as a viable reason in economics terms for most people. Most people I know are lucky to break even over the course of a season even with much of the above purchased.

39. The freezer, clothing, weapons, lifetime hunting license, and transportation are all
long-term purchases that, spread out over their lifetime(s) represent a small percentage of the cost. A freezer is going to be holding meat. Might as well be wild.

You refer to leases and transportation as if they are an essential. Perhaps they are where you live, but here in North Carolina, all you need is to know some folks with a farm or property who allow you to hunt. Travel is minimal.

Not factored into the equation is the time spent in the outdoors and all of the amazing things that hunters see and experience while they are waiting, waiting, waiting. My friends have seen bobcats, coyotes, bear, hawks, eagles, and many other creatures that the average non-hunter will rarely or never see in the wild when they have no awareness that a human is around. Those experiences are priceless.

And finally, there are the intangibles of being able to do something that you love and enjoy while also providing table fare.

40. Understand that I have no argument against hunting
but Palin's reference to We eat so We Hunt. That implies that hunting for food is a cheap and viable alternative to supermarket shopping. For most Americans I'd argue that simply isn't the case. If you already have a freezer, a weapon, a lifetime license, and access to nearby land, great. If you don't, it's cheaper to buy food in the store.

16. Both Verbs are in the Simple Present Tense
indicating "the idea that an action is repeated or usual".

She means that becase we have a habit of eating, we have developed a habit of hunting in order to make that possible.

Seems perfectly clear.

hunting meat is integral to alaskan's "rugged" self-image, and to some alaskan's subsistence. and that's perfectly fine.

as with most of her speaking, those being dog-whistled know what she MEANT.

so, are they going to eat those helicopter-slaughtered wolves, then?

23. Cows and pigs
do not fare very well in most of Alaska. Meat and produce that is flown in from the lower 48 is expensive and quite a drive / bush plane flight to get.

A great many people in Alaska hunt and fish for subsistence. While curious in wordsmanship, Ms. Palin actually has come near having a point with this line.

27. Well if the things I'm reading lately are correct about
the incidence of cruztefeld-jacobs (sp, I know)and prions similar to mad cow in deer herds in the lower 48, hunting wild animals is not necessarily an optimal way of gathering protien either.

Of course, Sarah is already a mad cow and I doubt eating contaminated caribou is gonna hurt her any.

35. The Palinistas think: she said "therefore" so she's smart
They don't normally use such fancy words and when someone does, that means he or she is educated -- or at least smarter than they are. Doesn't take much, I know. There's a lot of projection going on in the Palinistas.
