Just a side note about that friendly beer in the White House...
...am I the only one who expects a few whiny parents to slam Obama for setting a bad example for children by offering a beer (as opposed to a Coke or whatever else) to Gates and Crowley, and for the media to run with it for at least half a week?

6. Of course it would be lame, That's why I predicted it.
Nothing would surprise me after Rumsfeld and that "naked statue" thing from a few years ago.

You may be on the leading edge of the next wave of this very important national crisis.

like he was three sheets to the wind 90% of the time he spoke to the nation and in public. But, THAT'S ok.

13. Oh, I *totally* expect a shitstorm, especially from the "I'd have a beer with Dubya" crowd.
Being hypocrites, their underwear is going to be so wound up by tomorrow that they won't be able to breathe.

Lost my baseball team, too. :(

However, my Alouettes are the only undefeated team in the CFL! :)

27. I miss the CFL
I did a post-doc in Calgary and my wife and I held seasons tickets to the Stampeders for each season we were there. My wife is from Montreal and she shares your sadness with regard to the Expos but she was a Nordiques fan so I have a hard time convincing her to go with me to a Canadiens game when we get up there for Christmas.

28. On the off chance you're a Netflix user, see if they have
Edited on Mon Jul-27-09 03:09 PM by Zavulon
a movie called Bon Cop, Bad Cop. It's a hilarious cop buddy movie (a la Lethal Weapon) about a psycho who's killing members of the hockey community because America is taking over hockey. The things that set him off are Wayne Gretzny being sold to L.A, Eric Lindros's agent not letting him play for the Nordiques and getting him a contract in Philly instead, and - of course - the Nordiques moving to Colorado.

They have to use fake team names (Leafs: Loyalists, Canadiens: Patriotes, Nordiques: Fleur-de-lis), presumably because they didn't have permission, but the references are quite clear (and even the uniform colors are true to the NHL ones). Much (over half) of the movie is shot in Montreal, the two cops are well-known in Canada, it's the first truly bilingual movie in Canada, it's also Canada's all-time highest grossing picture. An American will find it funny, a Canadian from Quebec will find it hilarious because of all the inside jokes.

I think your wife will love it, and I'm sure you'll get a kick out of it too.

a lot of wingers like to have their beer and don't want people telling them they can't have one.
