The new evony banner. Why not just put porn there?
Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 09:47 AM by conspirator
The banner (google ad on the threads page) is getting sleazier and sleazier.
Not complaining. Just saying. The end justifies the means I guess.

apparently it's some kind of online electronic game. It features a comely queen with a plunging neckline. I guess DU members who aren't donors see advertising for it.

I mean really....we shouldn't be discriminating when it comes to types of cleavage now, should we?

Ass cleavage, bosom cleavage, it's all cleavage...I wasn't being obtuse at all. I was being rather specific, in fact.

Why are you so seriously angry about my comment? I might ask "Why be so morosely humorless?"

40. I'm sick of the blasé acceptance of women's bodies being used as marketing tools
I don't mind porn, I love sexuality... but is it so hard to see why an ad like that being used to sell a video game in which there isn't even any cleavage like that is disturbing?

If it's advertising for a "gentleman's club" :eyes: then it'd be appropriate and unsurprising... but this?

They should just go on and put huge boobs up in every ad... seems like hardly anyone would care.

Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 10:35 AM by redqueen
I'm ever so sorry if you don't wish to deal with it as a serious topic.

And before anyone starts: YES, I am aware that women do this willingly, of their own accord. Those women disagree with me about this, and that's fine.

69. Well, I have dealt with it as a "serious topic" elsewhere in this thread,
but if you're such a Debbie Downer that you can't see a shred of amusement in plumber's crack, you might need something to lift your spirits, or you may just be transmitting "It All Stinks/I Must Scold" today.

I won't get into how "women do this willingly" because I did address that elsewhere. And it's not just women who are into it, these days--it's the young lads and their steroids, supplements and six packs, too. America is Objectificationland for the young, and the not-so-young, too.

a reality. (he wasnt one i wanted to see ANYTHING)

but the slap a boob up there to sell is just pathetic. so much so, like i say.... really an insult to male. and it wasnt even me that came up with this. it is what my hubby feels. doesnt really think much about female perspective, he feels insulted they think he is so stupid.

54. There's a market for that shit. There's also a propensity for the young
people (women, mostly) to run around half naked in wisps of clothing because they think they look good that way and they also think that makes the people they are trying to attract more interested in them (well, it does, to some extent--in a rather physical way--it's a short-term effect, though).

However, fewer clothes almost always translate to less power, less authority, less credibility--at least over the long haul. Many young girls don't get that and you can't tell them, either. They'll lecture you about their right to dress as they please, and how older people are just old farts who don't "get it" and they'll do what they want.

Many older women don't get the relationship between credibility and clothing, either, and they expose more skin than might be advisable. Nancy Reagan with her batwings comes to mind.

Young men are getting into the "put it all out there" parade, too, and starting to exhibit eating disorders and steroid and other supplement abuse to get that "six pack" of abs. To say nothing of enduring painful waxing to create a false impression of their physical characteristics.

The starving models on the billboards and in the magazines are the "ideals" to a lot of these kids--they're nothing more than human coathangers for overpriced pieces of cloth called "fashion." You can't make kids see the whole con, though--they want to be different and don't want to listen to people who have been through that whole process and found it foolish or wasteful or just dumb. They simply have to evolve in their own way and at their own speed.

Sex sells. At least to a certain age range and demographic.

It always has.

57. the really sad part is all the grown men that play. i was sittin on porch with two 14 yr old girls
the other day.

dressed of course, as you say. watered bras, pushed up to expose all but nipples. little ole things that havent had much of a chance to do anything yet. talking about the school and academics, and the girls says, ya... not so smart. i asked why the kids think cool to be stupid. she says, oh, i am smart, no common sense, (bragging). i say, oh, so the dumb blonde cutsey does it for you....

shaking head

so gd tired of it.

i have two boys this age. walked in house and 14 yr old smiling from ear to ear. ya mom, i know, bring a stupid girl home and you arent gonna be nice.

yes, i know about the youth exploring sexuality. it is the adults playing in it that is causing the problems. taking it away from the youth and their natural exploration, to the fucked up adult world.

Edited on Sun Jul-26-09 10:43 AM by pitohui
i'm a donor here and don't see the DU ad but i'll assume it's the same as the myxer ad -- this heavily implanted lady is letting it ALL hang out, except for some scant coverage somehow of the actually nipples

cleavage to me is just showing the upper part of the breastesses

this lady is not so shy

if your plumber showed up wearing only a g-string, it might be equivalent to this lady

not saying it's porn, but it's pretty strongly hinted to be...the ads have such comments as, "play now, my lord" -- play now, my lord? ho-kay...i'm an adult and i could give a shit, but if i was a mom with a 9 yr old mixing up a ringtone, i might be freaking out a little right about now -- breasts are natural but the little hint of dominance/submission, maybe not so natural and doesn't need to be aimed at the younger kiddies

I'm not a donor, so I can see it. I mentioned something about this in another thread, and got a reply asking what I was talking about. My guess is that if you're a donor, then you don't have to view the ads on this site.

But yeah, this particular ad bothers me. Not only for the reasons you mention, but because my Firefox "Web of Trust" application says that it contains malware.

11. Ah, OK, I see. Not a donor, so you see the ads that help pay
for this site's operation.

I suggest that your complaints should be addressed directly to the Admins of this site. There is a "Contact Us" button at the bottom of every page on the site. I'm sure they don't want malware ads on the site and would block the one you mention, if they knew about it.

You don't suppose they read all the threads here, do you?

Contact them directly.

50. Wish I knew why people complained about syndicated ads
expecting the admins to micromanage their non-donor revenue stream.

I'm sure they'd want more people to click, and would like to know where ads like that appear. But instead of getting outraged, people could discreetly inform the admins that there are ads on the syndicate that probably won't get much traffic.

Evony is taking advertising to new lows and that is only the start. The game is a complete rip off of Sid Meier's Civ games but with added in game transactions that cost real money. Who would come up with such a scam... Chinese gold farmers... what a shock

64. Here, this is what the OP is posting about...

The PLAY NOW, MY LORD is what pisses me off.

Calling anyone "My Lord" pisses me off anyway.

72. People are all "think of the children!!" over *that*?
Someone else upthread was right; people are impressively prudish.

67. Come to think of it, if I may indeed use that phrase, has a tax on
the adult film industry to help pay for the president's healthcare inititives been proposed?

Seems like folks who are consumers of that industry's product would not bellyache too much over a modest tax.

Seems like folks who need meaningful health care reform would benefit and for those who question the tainted origins of the funding, the devil take the hindmost.

Sounds like one of those things where you click on it, and then you get 1000 spam e-mails every second for the rest of your life.
But that's "Google Ads" for you.

More like it, it's probably to Civilization IV /Age of Empires/Total War what Combat Arms/Warrock is to Call of Duty. All extremely crappy knockoff games.
