I'm this close to giving up on the Hysteria Channel.
History Channel tonight, right?
Listed, "Moon Shot" and "Meteors: Fire In The Sky."

What do they put on? "Ancient Astronauts" with bullshit that's been discredited for decades now, especially from that con man Eric Von Dummy...I mean Von Daniken and his "Chariots Of The Gods" book of lies. :grr:

I used to get their magazine too.
But I gave up on that too due to inaccuracy, and ads for "Christian" revisionism of actual history.

1. As more and more idiots come out of our schools, they infect all parts of the country. :(

2. Mixed bag, I guess.
We just finished watching "The Universe" that was a History Channel production. It was wonderful. Awesome visuals and lots of good scientific information. Guess you've got to pick and choose.

I remember reading von Daniken a gazillion years ago when I was in my 20s and thought all that weird ass stuff was facinating, maybe not believable, but facinating. I didn't think anyone gave him a second thought these days.

4. I watched "Moon Shot" and it was pretty good. . .
but most of the other programming is pretty awful.

One wonders why most of us don't get more organized about complaining to cable/satellite networks about the awful programming we PAY to subscribe to...this is no longer the line of manure cable used to give us about how we have to get a few home shopping/televangelista stations to finance the quality stuff - I think I only watch about SIX to EIGHT out of 100 channels. You'd think there would be some studies out there about ratings for some of these channels, especially the non-stop beg-a-thon wingnut "Christian" crap and the infomercial marathons.

5. Moonshot starts right after the wahcko ancient astronaut show
I watched Moonshot earlier this evening and it is OK. Too much of a docudrama with "re-created" scenes showing the personalities of the people for my taste.

I guess some know nothing thought since they were both about astronauts, they should be shown on the same evening.

7. The two History channels that I get have been getting worse
Ice Road Truckers or Ax Men for example are shows that really don't belong on something calling itself a history channel. The UFO and Monsterquest shows can sometimes be fun, but do they belong on a channel that purports to be all about history? And what about their Ghosthunters show? And even when they've shown actual programs about history, they tend to distort them in a very Anglo way. Their version of history is slanted towards how English-speaking peoples have done everything.

8. I want the Hitler Channel back.
I love WW2 stuff.

Fortunately, I get the Military Channel that has gobs of documentaries about Hitler's Hardware, especially the Luftwaffe.

9. I can't stand their Life after People
series ... damn depressing. But they do have other shows that are worth watching.

10. I agree.
"Life After People" was ok the first special.

Now it's just "The Joy Of Decay."

11. Historical DVDs
Too many crazy episodes on that channel. Public libraries have historical DVDs. Or, grab a book! :hi:

13. What a wonderful alternative!
If all the former History Channel watchers borrowed a stack of history DVDs from their public library each week, the libraries would be prompted to buy more like that and support their production.

12. And Animal Planet has morphed
from a combination of pet shows and natural history shows about endangered wildlife in their natural habitats INTO a ghoulish combo of shows about fatal or near-fatal wildlife attacks on people and hideous cases of parasite infestations in people--"THEY WERE FEEDING ON MY BRAIN!" The underlying message seems to be: Animals--They're All Out to Get You!

I used to occasionally watch "Who gets the dog?", a sort of game show where 3 households compete to adopt a rescue dog, w/ a panel of experts who evaluate the contestants' interactions w/ the animal and decide which is the best fit. I also enjoyed some of the wildlife observation shows. Now I never turn it on.

And yes, I miss the occasional high quality historical documentary on the History Channel, though I never cared about dissecting battles in modern wars. If they can't afford to produce new ones, they could do worse than rerun a collection of their better old shows.

16. It seems people must want to watch the 'they were feeding on my brain' shows.
the one about adopting a dog sounds good to me, but who wants to watch that when they could have a show about dogs biting people.

14. The programming on this channel is such a waste of valuable
real estate. If I owned this station, there would be a whole bunch of underreported history that would see the light of day!

15. It sucks to see the history channel morphing into the alien theory/earth destruction channel.
They do have some great stuff on... Modern marvels was on before the alien show and they were talking about divers and how they brought up the ships from pearl harbor and stuff like that. Very interesting stuff. Then they follow that with ancient discoveries... and I changed it to something else.

18. We got cable last November after not having it for many years.
I was shocked at how many channels had completely deteriorated--History Channel, A & E, Learning Channel, etc. I almost regret not going the antenna route, but at least now I can watch Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert.
