Healthcare reform, the condensed version.
Edited on Sat Jul-25-09 11:32 PM by mmonk
There's no need for a 1000 page reform bill that will still end up being the most expensive system still on earth and not cover everyone. Here's a condensed and effective reform:

Nationalize the health insurance companies to close them down, and compensate the shareholders.
Make Medicare available for all citizens.

There you have it. Simple to implement, cost efficient, and will save billions immediately without some future date to kick in while insuring everyone. All excuses eliminated in two sentences. The party that does this will be in office a generation.

4. Why? Insurance is the problem.
Insurance companies are just middle men that jack up the cost of health care. They come between you and your doctor for their own benefit. Eliminate 'em, they are not needed. Single payer, like the rest of the civilized world, is the way to go.

6. Who gets to cover the 20% that medicare does not pay for
Most medicare recipients have an insurance policy to do that. Your plan as proposed will wipe out the insurance companies, so the individual will have to pay their 20% directly out of pocket.

8. Either cover the 20 % or allow insurance companies to cover supplemental
insurance in healthcare, otherwise they can continue to cover property, life, casualty etc and all the other things other than healthcare they cover.

9. Who's going to pay the Medicare claims?
Medicare is currently administered under contract by private insurance companies. Your solution isn't that simple to implement if you're going to shut down the current Medicare system and recreate a new one.
