The problem with noticing the defects in others:
1) A sense of pride is born in the mind that one does not have a particular defect, and thus he accumulates egoistic (prideful) samskaras (impressions, habits or channels of thought). 2) A sense of aversion and hatred is generated for the person in whom the specific defect has been noticed. In this manner, samskaras of hatred and aversion are accumulated. 3) Because a human sees the defects of another, thinks about and discusses them, the samskaras of that defect also are accumulated. 4) Repeatedly looking at the defects of another person also makers our minds fickle, hence samskaras of fickleness (the habit of not liking what we are thinking about) are accumulated. 5) A person may engage in unnecessary arguments.
