Top GOP strategist Frank Luntz’s research firm has let several staff members go in the Washington-area office.

Luntz, the strategist famous for crafting the Republican revolution of the mid-1990s, will still keep a D.C. staff of seven people. The CEO of the research strategy firm – in its full name, Luntz, Maslansky — is Michael Maslansky. Luntz left the firm in January and now serves as chairman emeritus.

A source close to Luntz, Maslansky told The Hill that eight employees were let go on Friday — more than half of the total staff.

Maslansky confirmed to The Hill that several employees were let go on Friday, but refused to say how many were laid off.

“We did make some staff cuts; we outsourced a number of job functions to outside providers,” he said.

He stressed the firm still has a Washington-area office of seven people.

Luntz authored a messaging memo in May, defining the Republican rhetoric on healthcare reform. The messaging guru offered a set of poll-tested words for use by Republicans when they talk about healthcare. Some of his words are: “rationing,” “doctor-patient,” “takeover” and “bureaucrats.”
