CNN President: Dobbs may continue birther crusade
http://theplumline.whorunsgov.com/political-media/cnn-president-brushes-off-criticism-of-lou-dobbs-continued-floating-of-birther-theories/

CNN/US president Jonathan Klein is rebuffing the mounting criticism of the network over Lou Dobbs’ continued airing of “birther” theories, saying that Lou runs “his own show” that merely hosts “panels” with birther theorists and asserting that CNN respects viewers enough to let them “make up their own minds.”

Klein, in an interview with me just now, also took a shot at Dobbs’ critics, saying they’re politically motivated: “I understand that people with a partisan point of view from one extreme or anther might get annoyed that certain subjects are aired.”

23. OK, who's advertising on "Lou Dobbs Rant Hour"?
I'm willing to take that on - write to the advertisers and let Klein know.
I rarely watch Dobbs for more than 10 seconds. When I see it's him - always now on one of his 3 topics: Immigrants, Outsourcing & now Birth Certificate, I flip. So I don't know who's advertising...maybe I'll record, fast forward and take note.

To give ignorant ideas like the birthers have equal standing with the proof that Obama was born in Hawaii is just placating a bunch of crazies for gain and not legitimate debate.

Tabloid like in its promotion of falsehood, fanaticism and fundamentalism.

More of the fruits of deregulation.

7. I heard the funniest Birther argument the other day...
In regards to the FACT that Obama's birth was announced in the Honolulu paper the day after he was born there, and that if they wanted, the Birfer could look it up themselves to verify, the response was:

"Somebody could have hacked the microfiche."

:eyes:

Some people will NEVER be convinced...

30. You could take them back to 1961 in a time machine...
...to witness the birth in a Honolulu hospital, and they still wouldn't be convinced.

You could have the Republican governor of Hawaii herself let them tour the vaults and see all the official documentation in person, and they'd say the evil libruls got to her and are blackmailing her to cover up the truth.

There is no standard of proof that will convince them.

10. I don't know why such a big deal is made about Dobbs and
his birther nonsense.

I didn't even know about it until I read about it here at DU.

What a tremendous amount of free publicity he is getting here.

I don't watch him and if no one else did,he'd change topics, and fast.

16. Here is why it is disturbing to me. There is less and less real news on the TV anymore.
I would like to tune into a show like his were I can learn something useful and meaningful. Instead he is prostituting himself for what ever reason.

Try Olbermann, Maddow, Ed Schultz.

Hell, you'd get more news from Stewart and Colbert!

It's no longer the desert it used to be.........

26. I watch Maddow and Countdown almost every night.
I just wish there were more channels with good content.

I have satellite TV and most times I can flip through every channel and not find anything that interests me. Sometimes I feel good about that because most of what's on TV sucks.

27. I have wishes too.
I wish I had a home to live in, instead of my car.

I wish I COULD watch Maddow and Olbermann and Ed Schultz, rather than hearing people criticizing homeless people like me.

Could it be better? Of course.

But just remember that you have it much better than some of us.

And it wasn't that long ago that you didn't have the news choices you have now.

28. You are right I have it much better than some of us. I'll even go as far as saying that
Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 06:44 PM by county worker
I have it better than most of us.

I have a steady job without much chance of being laid off. My wife and I have a combined income well over the national average. Some would say we are rich though we don't have many real assets anymore thanks to the economy.

In 1982 I was homeless also. I came back and almost lost it all again in 1991. I was one step away from homelessness again. Thankfully I was married and my wife stuck by me through unemployment, suicidal episodes and clinical depression when all around us were telling her to leave me. An acquaintance helped me get a laborers job looking for unexploded ordinance.

Don't give up your wishes or dreams.

Here is the thing I learned from it all.

When life sucks you have to do something to make it better. There is no guarantee that what you do will make it better but you just have to keep on trying until something works because if you don't you do get a pretty good guarantee that it won't get better.

I will never take what I have for granted because I could lose it all tomorrow. I believe in personal responsibility and the power of attraction. That has helped me get where I am. No matter what the economy is doing or what the unemployment figures are, somebody is getting a new job and somebody is climbing out of the hole. If ever I'm in the hole again that somebody will be me!

37. "When life sucks you have to do something to make it better. "
Please do me the courtesy of NOT assuming what I have or have not done.

This is one of the most irritating paternalistic attitudes of those who have towards those who have not.. the assumption is made that we are where we are because we do nothing.

I resent that, and I no longer will explain or defend myself when this tack is taken.

19. News organizations used to have ethics about reporting
and bullshit like this wouldn't see the light of day.

What if a CNN reporter was reporting something else that is just factually bullshit... would this knucklehead allow it because the "controversy" would attract viewers?

It wouldn't be so exasperating except that the issue was initially raised and fully dispelled long before the election. This idiot points to "...people with a partisan point of view from one extreme or another..." WHEN IT IS A FUCKING FRINGE EXTREME THAT IS PUSHING THIS FULLY DIS-PROVEN CRAP IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I know poor Walter just died, but I wouldn't think that all journalism ethics died with him.
