Poll question: Cost of health insurance?
Perhaps this has been around before and I missed it. Or the previous poll is outdated (assuming there was one).
Seems this could be a useful database.

7. I also checked None
because my part paid every month is just under $60. My employer pays the rest.

16. Interesting question Mercutio
If you had to pay as if your employer wasn't covering a portion of the cost, would you then have that amount added to your salary?
Are you taxed on that amount as if it were salary?

22. Health benefits aren't taxable.
So no, I'm not taxed on them.

I pay about $360/month for myself and my son. My employer pays about $730, so the total cost is roughly $1100/month.

Edited on Fri Jul-24-09 05:06 PM by Blue_In_AK
It comes out of his fixed pension check and has risen from $187/mo to $500/mo to $800/mo within the past six years.

6. I voted $250-300 because I was "lucky" enough to quailify for COBRA at a discounted rate..
due to the stimulus. Otherwise it would have been closer to $500.

10. i'm guessing because i don't know off hand. we switched to a cheaper one in
january with higher deductibles, and switched the kids to child health plus. funny not so funny thing about that.... i found out in january i was pregnant, which scared me because i didn't know how much it would cost us out of pocket for a pregnancy. but at least we aren't straddling another year.

11. To get the same plan I am on now, $420/mo.
Thanks to the divorce, I will be losing my insurance, and that was the cost they told me it would be to keep it. I am looking into other options.

12. $0 because I can't afford any health insurance
and I'm self-employed.

Therefore, I couldn't answer the poll.

18. Not able to afford IS an answer, TheWitch.
Just interested in a cross section.
FYI, I've NEVER had health insurance until Medicare, which I now have, being 69 years old and on SS.

19. The poll isn't clear
"None" according to the poll question means "I pay nothing for the health insurance I have" as the question is specific to how much you pay for health insurance. There is nothing in the poll that identifies those who pay nothing for health insurance because they have no health insurance. Clearly, there are people who pay nothing for their health insurance because someone else pays for it AND those that pay nothing because they don't have any. How are both supposed to answer "None" to this poll when someone who pays nothing for their health insurance and someone who has no health insurance are polar opposites?

13. Under $300 monthly BUT
it comes with a $10,000 deductible and a co-pay. Doctor visits and prescription drugs are not covered. Neither is vision or dental. For most purposes it is entirely useless.

15. For myself, or my family?
I probably have the most f'd up health insurance situation ever.

1) I have my own policy -- $500/month. $2,500/year deductible. Which we hit this year.
2) My wife has her own policy. Got it before we were married and before she had breast cancer. It was a group policy that is now in COBRA. -- $500/month.
3) My ex-wife carries coverage on my son and I am to reimburse 80% of that cost. $200/month.

I guess that's all.

20. $480 a month for my husband's coverage. My boss pays my
premium, which I am grateful for.

Still, nearly $500 a month for one person.......

I have no health insurance but you haven't included that as an option. There are 47 million uninsured and some of us are at DU, FYI.

So I answered "none" but the cost could be my life.
