Other than having their campaign war chests being a little poorer - what else could they be threatened with? Surely - if they stood up for the people - those that elected them in the first place - that they would be rewarded with re-election. Just how can turning down the bribes by these lobbying guns hurt them?

I think you are insinuating that they would be knocked out of office - but how? Again - I have to reiterate - if the person elected by the people actually came through for the people - wouldn't the people reward that person with re-electing them?
