My son and son in law were both cops. Son had his head on straight enough to resist the racist bullshit that went on in the PD and left after about 5 years. S-I-L who was raised by a family who were not racists, and wasn't a racist himself when he joined the PD, took on a racist persona on order to impress the bigots around him. He was a failure as a cop for a lot of reasons and he is no longer on the force, but he still feels it necessary to act like a bigot from time to time so his ex cop buddies will think he is still a big macho man. It's sad, he's basically a decent human being but we find it hard to tolerate him when he gets into ex cop mode. His parents, particularly his dad, would be spinning around in his grave if he saw how he turned out.
