I don't know how Brian Williams is as a journalist, but
he kicks ass every time he goes on The Daily Show. I just saw his segment from Monday and the two of them had me rolling. If he didn't already have a day job, I would recommend that The Daily Show hire him as a correspondent. He's got great comedic timing.

1. Williams has a great sense of humor, and Stewart brings out the best in everyone.
They're a great pair.

2. He's above Couric and anything Fox has...but below Cronkite and Rather.
How's that?

4. He's A Newsreader...Not A Journalist...
I've never read any articles he's written or know him for covering any major stories. He's a video face...a pretty one to look at with a smooth voice...suited for the medium, but he's no journalist. At best, he goes on location with dozens of producers who do the real leg work. If he were 300 pounds with a bad case of acne, he'd be selling cars or writing on message boards ()

It's fun to watch him spar with Jon...he does have a quick wit, he does better with stand-up than he did with standing up to 8 years of boooosh abuses or being a cheerleader during the Clinton Inquisition.

13. Wasn't it Williams
who made remarks about bloggers, whining that he'd had to go to school to study journalism while bloggers sit at home and type, encroaching (somehow) on 'real' journalism? Feel free to correct me on this.

5. I am hestitant to call any news anchor these days a journalist.
Back in Cronkite's day, most anchors WERE actual journalists -- reporters that had worked their way up by being in the field and becoming adept at reporting.

nowadays, you have cheerleaders and beauty queens (of both sexes) who go directly from college into teleprompter reading, and have no chops in journalism whatsoever.

add to that that broadcast news is no longer journalism, in and of itself, but one giant facebook page where who won american idol is a bigger and longer lasting news story than the fact the bush administration raped and sodomized teenage boys in front of their parents....

add to that that the news organizations are giant military industrial complex cheerleaders and will fire any reporter who stands in their way...

well, I've made my point.

7. He's loosened up since his early appearances
there's an obvious adversarial relationship going on between the two of them. Williams is just the only one who really seems to know how to hit back at Jon.

On B Dubs newshour, well its the least shitty option you have for your evening network news but that's not saying a whole lot.

9. Yeah, he's got a good sense of humor.
I watched him on SNL once. I figured, "oh boy, this is going to be bad." But Williams was pretty good. He's not nearly as uptight as you would think. He's a really likeable guy.

11. Feh
Greg Palast is a journalist. Brian williams is a stenographer. The only reason he can be called a journalist is because Fox news has set the bar so low that he looks stellar by way of comparison.

15. Yeah, he is very likeable and does a great job at anchoring the news.
I wasn't overly impressed when he took over the nightly news, but he was really grown into the role.
