I don't care what anybody says
Edited on Wed Jul-22-09 08:50 PM by Mythsaje
(I'm sure there are people just dropping dead of shock at that admission)

I'm okay with the President. He might not be the grab 'em by the shirt and shake the spare change out of those greedy bastards kind of guy that I'd prefer, but I can live with a thoughtful, capable, intelligent man who seems to believe in doing the right thing for the right reason. Doesn't mean he doesn't make mistakes, but it does mean his mistakes are probably smaller in effect and fewer in number than some others we could mention but won't (cough-Shrub-cough).

The Public Option isn't my first choice, but I like the fact that Obama is going to the mat on it and trying to make sure SOMETHING meaningful is passed despite the do-nothings and foot-draggers in Congress. I like the fact that he's willing to take the case to the American people and directly oppose the Insurance company sponsored attack ads. It shows he's not afraid, and it shows that he respects the American people to pay attention and make the right call themselves.

Now this doesn't mean there aren't things I disagree with him on, sometimes strongly. But despite the fact I've been accused of attacking him regularly (apparently I belong to a group of people allegedly known for such) I've never made a habit of it. So much for assumptions, eh?

With the attacks he's suffering now from the RW loonies, trying to hide their issues with his race behind accusations of non-citizenship, I just want to say that I have his back. For what it's worth. Any RW loonies talk trash about him around me, they'll get an ear full. Not that it's likely, since I live somewhere RW loonies should fear to tread, but, well, there's always on-line.

edited for clarity

2. I agree with you.
He is pushing the issue because that is his job.

This country needs this badly and I really believe it's going to happen.

No President or man is perfect and Obama said he would make mistakes. But he is working is ass off trying to get things done.

5. It's strange to hear free marketeers lament that the public option would
motivate businesses to stop providing employer subsidized medical insurance.

That the public option would "let employers off the hook."

It seems a strange thing to hear coming from people who usually defend any cost-cutting profit-gouging decision businesses choose to make.

6. Right--and why should employers even be ON the hook?
I'd rather the state (that I pay taxes to) be responsible for my medical rather than my employer (who might not be my employer a few months or years down the line).

9. Perk vs. a right
I don't know why Republican voters want to make safe food, clean water, decent housing and medical care "optional perks."

10. I support Pres Obama too.
He has an enormous amount to deal with. We are lucky to have
someone so calm. Anyone expecting
someone perfect is delusional. I find him to be a real breath
of fresh air.

11. Compared to
Most he is really quite remarkable, never going to get perfection in any politician but he gets as close as I have seen

12. If you don't care what anybody says, then you don't care what you say.
So why should anyone else care?

But if you don't care what anybody ELSE says, well that's different.
