FUCK IT. Why the hell is he saying this NOW? When Congress is out of town? When no other Democrats are around to dispute him? What the fuck is he thinking?

Levin: Senate will pay for Iraq war

~snip~ WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate will not stop paying for the Iraq war or relent from insisting that President Bush keep pressing the Baghdad government for a negotiated end to the violence, a top Democrat said Sunday.

Michigan Sen. Carl Levin, the Senate Armed Services Committee chairman, took issue with an effort by Majority Leader Harry Reid to limit war spending after March 2008 as a way to end U.S. involvement.

"We're not going to vote to cut funding, period," Levin said. "But what we should do, and we're going to do, is continue to press this president to put some pressure on the Iraqi leaders to reach a political settlement."

1. I saw that, too. Patience, though. This is one guy saying this
It may not play out like that.

But yes, there is the perception that he/we blinked...AGAIN!

Hopefully things are not as they appear.

3. Let us hope so. But when the Chairman of the Armed Services Committee says this.....
it carries a bit of weight to it.

5. Carl has a knack for dragging his foot when the wagon is
picking up speed. Reminds me alot of Senator Spectre at times.
This time he showed his stripes on national TV. Most of the time he torpedoes Reid behind the scenes and Reid takes the hit for not leading effectively.

7. Yes I noticed all anybody
wants to talk about is what some idiot fuck said. Why do we give so much attention to this shit? Last time it was the damn football add. Or Ann Coulter. I'm tired of all the attention paid the idiot fuckwads. Imagine if we shunned them all.

Meanwhile the war continues and the Democrats were presented on Countdown as blinking first, giving in to Bushler and not even waiting for a veto. I missed this among the four thousand Imus threads. Thanks for having one. Should I call them honky haired cowards? GOD knows they are often whores. I guess then it would be worth discussing.

9. Levin doesn't want to be seen as not "Supporting the troops".
He is protecting himself. In the meantime he has wakened the Dem position regarding the Illegitimate US Occupation of Iraq.

13. As are the majority of DU'ers who've posted in this thread already. Typical.

Self loathing, addicted to failure, scab-picking, circle-jerk DU'ers who need to hate whatever elected Democrat doesn't part their hair just exactly so.

Yeah, Levin doesn't have much hair does he.

BURN HIM!

10. Levin's always cautious.
It's who he is. He voted against the war, and he's slowly getting things going in his committee to track down all sorts of abuses and crap that the Bush Administration is doing. Watch what he does, too, not just what he says.

He's afraid of being painted as anti-military, though, considering he's up for re-election in a barely blue state. We didn't see that much of him at the convention before the gubernatorial election in August, but the party faithful here in Michigan know Carl's a good guy. He's just cautious, is all.

11. Here's a thought
Has Halliburton repaid all the overcharges they sucked up out of the loot bin yet?Somehow I highly doubt it.

If not, the first reply to Bu$h whining about cutting off funding should be "collect the overcharges back from Halliburton and any other contractors first, them come talk to us about further funding" Let them run their damn war on that for a while

Seriously, if he is so dedicated to his principles regarding his war, make him and crashcart prove it.

14. Have I missed something about Levin?
He was one of the Dems that voted against the IWR. Why would he say this shit when the senate is in recess?

15. Give Levin a chance
He hasn't exactly been a career GOP enabler.

He's earned a lot of respect over the years.

When the time comes (and Lord, it's been a long time coming), he'll prove himself.

They have ALWAYS said they're not going to cut off funding for the troops. BUSH is the one who was trying to slap that label on Democrats.

21. Thanks for saying that! I'm still having a difficult time understanding
why almost all the talking heads on CNN & MSNBC, INCLUDING OLBERMAN, were talking about the Dems blinking first? I haven't heard ANY Dem say they were going to remove the timelines from thecurrent bill, and THAT'S what Shrub is bitching about! Why do all these people say the Dems blinked first? I don't see it!
