Imus comments more cruel than racist.
I think Imus' remarks are less racist and more just plain cruel. Cruel, because people, for the most part, can not change the way they look. Cruel, in a society that glorifies small, white, blonde women.

We do it here - all the time - myself included - making fun of and degrading our adversaries for the way they look. I, for one, have learned a lesson from this episode.

There are a lifetime of action to derride instead....

1. What are you saying?
Edited on Mon Apr-09-07 03:24 PM by TWriterD
That there's something wrong with the way the Rutgers players look and Imus was cruel to say so?

16. I didn't mention the sexist part
until it was pointed out in a thread here. I think sexism is so common I barely notice it.

4. I kinda disagree with part of what you say. I don't think DUers

should attack adversaries for the way they look unless they or certain of their supporters demonstrate hypocrisy or unless they do things in an exaggerated way that invites comment. I may be on record for doing it - I don't remember all my remarks. My point is I don't think we should select and say unfair things about looks - in polar opposite to what we know some right wingers participate in (defintely including Imus and Bernard and their impersonators) or what i've heard way back when I did look at a few right wing blogs.

I think we should really think about staying with what the adversary - says and does'.

Looks - no
Manners, words, tone, body language, message, lies - yes

8. So many Imus threads. Is this sort of, obsessiveness, normal on DU?
Please don't attack me. I'm just asking. Okay?

9. Yes, it's "normal" here. Happens all the time,
depending on the outrage of the day. Today, it's Imus, tomorrow will depend on what happens tomorrow.

10. Thanks.
Guess I'll just stick with avoiding clicking on the "obsession of the day" posts (unless they have to do with criminalizing the damned criminals in this administration).

13. just for the record
...glorifies small, white, blonde women.

Just for the record, I think it's tall white, blonde women that are the ideal of society.

As Randy Newman says, "short people got no reason to live."

And also, just for the record, I view his remarks as not only racist but sexist. Imus is a pig. His 15" of fame is long overdue and he should resign.

15. I Agree Somewhat. It's Similar To People Calling A Group Of Women On Miss America Pageants Blonde
bimbos or somethin. But it was an incredibly insensitive, stereotypical and stupid thing to say.
