I'm willing to take this bet
Col. Steven Boylan, a U.S. military spokesman and aide to the commander of all U.S. forces in Iraq, praised the peaceful nature of the demonstration, saying Iraqis "could not have done this four years ago."
"This is the right to assemble, the right to free speech — they didn't have that under the former regime," Boylan said. "This is progress, there's no two ways about it."

I'm willing to bet before the invasion of Iraq, you could of had a large peaceful march through the streets of Iraq with people shouting bad stuff about the US. It seems like the only thing Iraqi's agree on is they don't like the US. BOY sure am glad about that. Mission accomplished.

2. Hm. Well, the only difference, of course...
... was that the Iraqi government was not a puppet regime of the US.

I guess Boylan is complimenting both the US and Iraq for showing restraint and not imprisoning the protesters and their families.
