Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 06:34 PM by CatWoman
He said that white men built this country.

oh the irony!!

I'll bet Pat was nursed by a black woman, but in his mind he made his own bottles and fed himself.

built this country.

5. Yep.
I expect him to point to Indian reservations next, and say that we shouldn't have allowed them to immigrate into our country.

There is something delusional about his domestic construct. There has been some attention paid to Glen Beck's screaming at the lady on the phone recently. I'm sure you will recall Pat's similar rant that was directed at a black lady on MSNBC who exposed his gross ignorance a couple of years ago. He should have been fired immediately.

Edited on Fri Jul-17-09 06:46 PM by noiretextatique
he also said that white men built the country, fought all the wars, etc. he also said sotomayor would have never gotten in to princeton without affirmative action (which is clearly unfair to white men) so he entire career is worthless...because she is latina, which he used like a slur.
:eyes: i am sure there is more someone else can add. i wonder how he will justify slappy presence on the court.

7. he forgets that a lot of chinese men built the railroads along with the irish
he forgets that the west was opened up a lot by black cowboys. That black men and women built most of the south, not to mention Washington, DC. Just because you stand there and give orders does not mean you 'built it'. He was probably referring to white men who financed the building but still he forgets that the financiers took money earned on the backs of the laborers in all fields. Stupid idiot.

14. There is a
psychological process that allows people with rigid mental constructs to walk down a street, and not recognize anyone except those who are their own "type." There is another process that reduces a person's insight, so that when they do see someone different than themselves, they become suspicious-to-paranoid. Patrick Buchanan combines the worst in both of these in his world-view.

31. Typical Easterner
Totally ignores anything west of the Mississippi. His rant got me when he completely forgot about the people of Mexican and Asian ancestry who helped build the West. Along with people from all over, I'll hasten to add, and the people who were here in the first place. Buchanan's myopia makes him see everything in black and white - what got me was his statement that the country's always been 90% white and 10% black - Americans come in other shades as well.

That pretty much ignores the contributions of anyone of any color that's not white of any geographic location in the country. Be glad he's ignoring other hues. Less attention means he doesn't have as much time to demonize them.

forgetting that African Americans like the Tuskegee airmen were doing all they could for the war effort, and begging for the opportunity to do more. Being willing to fight and die for a country that sees you as a second class citizen...THAT is patriotism!

16. What about the black men and women who built the White House?
What about my Mexican great uncle who died in WWII?
While on leave in his home town of Mercedes, Texas, he could only go to certain bars to celebrate because "dogs and Mexicans" were not allowed in some.
My grandmother threw a fit outside one such bar after her brother died, saying "he was good enough to die for this country, but he isn't good enough to set foot in this shitty bar."

What does Pat Buchanan think that slavery was?
Just restricted freedom?
Does he think slaves just sat in cages all day long?
No.
They were working from before the sun came up until the sun went down.
They built this country's roads and grew its food.
They grew and picked the cotton for its textiles.
They rocked so many white babies of the wealthy to sleep and nourished them with milk from their own breasts.

Just when I though I couldn't despise this man any more, there he goes again.
I can't believe that MSNBC hasn't fired him.
Sometimes I think its good that he is permitted to showcase his idiocy, but then I remember that its isn't idiocy to a lot of people in this country.
I am afraid that a lot of people agree with him or will be swayed to his way of thinking.
I think he and people like him are more dangerous than we think, especially at a time of economic hardship.
When times are tough, people look around for someone to blame.
They need a scapegoat.
People like Pat Buchanan present them with one so they don't look at the people in power who have really screwed things up.

There were a couple of all-black units but most of them were in integrated units fighting alongside whites. Some of them were promised freedom if they would fight in the place of their masters.

uneducated ones. You're correct, though, that their children and grandchildren were able to fully and completely integrate into society due to the relative difficulty of discerning the children of the hated-immigrant-of-today from the children of the now-acceptable-immigrants-of-yesterday.

(You were a slave? You must be older than I thought. I of course accept and believe most arguments about the persistence of generational/systematic discrimination and disadvantage, but "doomed me into servitude" sounds a bit off.)

37. It's the Authoritarian mindset...
For them, history is all about the men at the top. Sure, all presidents until Big O were white males. All generals in the Civil War were white. Forget about the several hundred thousand or so blacks that served. All "Captains of Industry" have been white males. The list goes on.

The people that actually swung the picks and dug with the shovels don't really matter. They're just numbers.

You see, this all started in the primaries. Everyone knew that the Dems would win. Never really was a doubt about the presidential race. Probably the biggest lock since Franklin Roosevelt. But once it dawned on the people on the right that the Dem candidate was going to be either a woman or a black man, they didn't know how to handle it. They still don't believe it, and there is absolutely no evidence of any kind of problem that clouded both of Shrub's elections.

No, the American people elected a black man president. If Hillary had won the primaries (still could have happened IMO) the American people would have elected a woman. The RWers are still reeling from what they think is a crazy act on the part of so many million voters.
